I saw this !!! really bummed as I really liked the capability of EAGLE. I am sure other platforms are equally versatile, just all my old files will no longer be compatible ( at least the ones I have tried to import into KiCAD did not go well )

 

KiCAD's super easy. You'll be up and running in an hour.

 

The good thing is I’m still in the very early stages of PCB design so I don’t have a ton of projects locked into EagleCAD. While I like Eagle, the limits for the free version were pulling me more towards KiCAD

 

Paul Carmody is known for high value affordable designs. Checking recently though I see he has joined the Purifi club

Parts Express and DIY sound group both carry Paul Carmody kits so they might fill in some. Although they don’t tend to carry high-end drivers like ScanSpeak

Here for my sub monthly post on what i am working on! And this time its a completely 3d printable headphone.
This is my personal design, as ive been tweaking and working on this for a about a month or two now, figuring out how it should look! Its not been easy

However, with some help, and destroying a few cheap headphones with a slider mechanism, I have created a functional sliding 3d printable headband thats being printed in his final proto as we speak! As for sound and tuning, that is to be started on as I am looking to try a baffle design approach that isnt something ive seen before! Basically inspired by Fostex with foam and material over venting, in a much easier application method. Ive been doing this for a bit and it has an acoustic difference, whether it's effective however... is to be found out! I'm just a DIYer after all having fun.

If I can get a fully assembled version made before canjam london 2023, I will bring one to showcase for friends and observers!
I will most likely be around the Elise audio booth then.

 

On the off chance someone needs a 1mA current source/sink, I measured a bunch so that you don't have to. People who enjoy poor data visualization are also welcome!

Hi Justin, hope you're good. I'm really really keen to try this upgrade with my Diamond 9.1. How are you enjoying them now they've bedded in?

 

With the upgrade they're pretty refined sounding for a $200 speaker (+ the cost of the kit). I am digging them a bunch. They're very nicely balanced, clean and fun. They stage pretty well now, too. My original assessment of them stands except for the brightness - this totally mellowed out. I also changed sources to a little Fosi Class D amp, and a Modi+. It's a satisfying little system.

Same here. I had been using the free Eagle for quite some time, but used DipTrace for some projects that the boards were too big for Eagle (free) miniscule 100x60 sizing. KiCad appears to have a learning curve related to libraries, footprints, etc. I had started watching a video tutorial that was making sense of this, but of course lost the link and haven't been able to find it again. Winter project I guess.

Bit of a prototype baffle I am working with! 40mm Bio dynamic with a mix of various tuning methods! Steel mesh screen and paper tuning baffle to limit airflow. Still needs a lot of work...
But, graphs will be happening soon! I am potentially getting a rig this month, hopefully all turns out well...

Also, I may be working with some people to push out an original headband for headphones so keep an eye out for that

Looking at turntables it seems like a common project to take the working parts of a used turntable and place it in a very large custom wood plinth. Why kind of turntable motors do people like using for this? Does anyone know a well documented project somewhere?

There is an example I found by Troels for a Lenco turntable but I'd like to see if there's other brands.

Long time ago, I bought a vintage Empire turntable 208 and used its bearing, platter and Pabst motor for a turntable project.
When I bought it, prices were somewhat reasonable.
I think Lenco's are more popular, so were more expensive when I was looking.

It’s billed as a cinema mic specifically for stunt work. The low price point means you can use it in situations where normally wouldn’t want to risk your fancy microphones. I won’t be doing stunt work, but I’ve been looking for a budget mic that I could use mounted out of view and at this price it’s worth trying and supporting my local business.
