Don't get me wrong - the scaling/challenge increasing has kept me interested I just dislike the way it sneaks up on you and can cause some rather pointless deaths/loss of amrita. Don't even get me started on the water level (umi-bozu) - rolling into the water accidentally and losing 100+K amrita when corpse running is a horrible feeling.

Maybe 10 years ago optimization was shit, but nowadays it's getting close to cycle accurate. I play a ton of arcade games (thus my username) and gpd is perfect for that. I also have a AGS-101 GBA with the super bright lcd mod, nothing beats than original hardware. But emulation with scaling/shaders is my preference.

I heard a rumor that if a million people lick Zelda's game cartridge, a super secret mystery shrine will appear that will bestow upon us our greatest desires.

I herd that if enough people lick the cartridges a super secret cow level will appear and you get a special cowlick hairstyle unlock, only if you don't kill the cow king.

Damn, that new Zelda game really got me tempted. But the Switch release seems like a joke to me. It's a 330 € console with a single game at launch. If they at least ported all the games from WiiU like Super Mario 3D World, Paper Mario or Captain Toad so people would have a reason to buy the console if they skipped last gen, that would have been smart.
If you throw in the Pro controller, the package costs 470 €. There's no way I can justify that investment as there is only a single hot game. Mario will be good, as always. But, ... nah, not enough exclusives. By the time it will be worth buying, there will be a second generation with improved battery life.

I haven't bought a PS4 yet either. Still waiting for some good games. Red Dead Redemption 2 will probably be the game to make me weak. Right now I'd only want to play Doom and maybe Dragon Quest Builders. Not enough. Looking forward to the FF7 Remake, though. A used one can be had for around 200-230 €, the newest pre-Slim version with optical out. I'll probably snatch one soon, though, before I have to buy the HDMI version.

My PS3 has been collecting dust since GTA5, which I didn't really like. I couldn't connect with the characters and the violence seemed mindless to me. So I just ordered Infamous 2 for fun. Not sure what to expect. Just wanted to play a semi-open world game like Zelda without spending at least 400 €.
I still have Yakuza 4, Diablo 3 and Dark Souls in my drawer. Never finished them.

If the Ps4 hasn't amassed a good enough library of games for you this far, it probably never will. RDR2 will likely be more mindless (but crazy fun) violence akin to GTA. The unique and varied library on Ps4 already brings back memories of the ps2 & late ps3 eras.

I bought a cheap Wii U in order to play Zelda. I never owned a Wii/U before so I have a massive backlog of games to work through. I agree that the games are just not there for Switch yet.

Just beat the Spider Castle level on Nioh, and I'm finding the game enjoyable so far. As someone who's put multiple hundred of hours into every Souls game and Bloodborne (which will now be grouped as Souls game for the rest of this post), I'm finding the difficulty of Nioh about on par or slightly easier than From's games. Whereas I find the levels more difficult than the bosses in the Souls games, I find the opposite true in Nioh.

When I first started Nioh, I did go through a bit of a learning curve, as I died at least 15 times on the first level and boss. After I got acclimated to the combat and switched my armor set out to something that was less than 70% encumbrance, I fared considerably better. The levels after that I would rarely find myself dying, maybe once every now and then, but the bosses still remained steadily hard. The vampire lady I guess I got lucky and coincidentally equipped an anti-paralysis accessory, so I didn't get locked in place by her projectile and beat her on the first try. The chimera and umi-bozu I died to each at least 6 times. In comparison would either beat new Souls bosses on my first or second try. When you play enough Souls games it gets to the point where you just know how to fight a boss even if you have no experience with it yet. Nioh bosses I find to be refreshingly hard with unique combat.

One thing I find lacking considerably in Nioh in comparison to Souls games is that enemy diversity is severely lacking. One of the most gripping and exciting factors about the Souls games is their enemy diversity, where you're left wondering just what that new enemy is capable of doing and how you should approach it, or if you should approach it at all when you've made so much progress since your last bonfire and are carrying too many souls to risk it. In Nioh you get pretty much the same enemies with only a new guy being introduced after several missions. There's a familiarity with them that you build that tends to make combat easy in the levels in comparison. Sure they all challenge with your level, but so does your gear that you endlessly get from looted enemies and the blacksmith (who has a retarded design.)

The design of each level in the game is satisfactory, with great atmosphere and color palette choices to them. I don't think they're quite on the level of From yet in regards to ingenuity with the environments, but unlocking shortcuts in a similarly smart manner and playing with verticality at least a little bit is welcoming. Umi-Bozu's stage and Nue's stage so far are my favorites in terms of gripping atmosphere.

Not having an open world is a little unfortunate, but as Demon's Souls is my favorite Souls game, I'm ok with having separate levels, as long as each is unique and involving. Doing sub-missions that utilize the same environments takes some of the immersion of the game away, but their arcade style endurance runs of enemy waves they throw at you is thrilling at times.

The combat of the game is by far its biggest strength, and is a welcome change in pace in comparison to Souls games-- even bloodborne. Animations are very fluid, and the satisfaction you get when performing critical attacks on groggy enemies or seeing their limbs come off with a very video-gamy stylized blood spew is as well. Learning new techniques as you level up is fun, and reforging the skills you want on your favorite weapons makes them feel like something of your very own which you can tailor to your specific playstyle. Right now I'm rocking a level 50 Purple Raikiri which I forged from the blacksmith with all the highest quality materials. I rerolled all of my attributes on it, and one of them is a Parasitic Drain that gives me roughly 15-20hp back every time I hit an enemy with mid-stance slashes-- quite useful and overpowered I think, but I'll take it.

At this point I'm guessing I'm roughly a third of the way through the game, and I'm very excited about what lies in store ahead of me with new bosses and levels.

Define "good enough." To warrant a purchase? I don't know which game would make the PS4 era better than the PS3 gameplay wise. Maybe Doom. There's no similar shooter like that on PS3. People say it feels fresh.

I played through RDR and I found it nothing like GTA. GTA is a violent satire of today's society with characters too hard to connect with.
RDR has an atmosphere and its the kind of violence we grew up as children playing in our backyard. Shooting and falling off roofs. But I sure as hell never pretended I was driving over people, torturing others or going amok on drugs. That is just sick and immature, IMO.

Hahahaha that reminds me of FF8, with that card minigame Triple Triad.

Probably the best FF I've played, although that might be with nostalgic lenses since that was the first FF I've played. Even many years after I can remember the rough story line of the entire game... Not even the vaunted 7 can touch it.

Hey guys. I just play one game mostly. CS:GO. Deathmatch only. Don't have the ability to play competitive matches. I take care of 2 people that need assistance at a moments notice. 1,356 hours into the game. BenQ 24XL30T 144hz Monitor. I used to play Quake 3 Arena and Unreal Tournament. Moved to CS:Go just a little over a year ago. Have Doom, Rocket League, Fallout New Vegas and more. Seems like my time is just spent best using the traditional guns in Counterstrike. I have a liking for shooting them in real life and that's what draws me to the game. Cheers.

Mass killing civilians was a thing in RDR too. The scale was just smaller due to not riding around in giant death machines due to the time period. You can be as "sick and immature" (as you put it) as you want. Or, you know, don't blow up random people in the streets. It's a game. Play it how you want.

The only "drugs" you can do in the game is alcohol and weed, hardly considered to be the nectar of demons.

Best part about 8 and 9 is the card game! The same is true for me as well when it comes to Witcher 3. For all of its grandeur and content, I find myself spending the most amount of time in the game talking to any noteworthy person and trying to play cards with them.

Gwent is probably the best minigame within a game I've ever played. Just fantastic and really well done.

The in-game "market" system (paying for cards ala freemium) is quite a downer though. Especially considering previous CDPR games. I hope they won't fall into rabbit hole of greedy developers.

    Anyone playing Horizon: Zero Dawn?
    How do you like it?
I've enjoyed the first 10-15 hours, but after a few days I'm getting bored.
I like the scenery, the music, the animation. I like tha Princess Mononoke wibe.
But the story is just full of bad writing and uninteresting characters. Everyone acts like a bunch of stupid children.
I can't even like Aloy, she is just a selfish, naive, whining child.
Maybe my expectations were too high after the
    hype.
Or is there some problem with me that I can't identify with anyone in this game?
