Seamaster Railmaster. I've been happily wearing this as my daily since I picked it up in March. Still photos don't do the dial justice-- the brushed metal catches the light in a dozen different ways. I'm really happy with the understated look, especially on a leather strap, and with my job at the physics lab the magnetic resistance might even (theoretically) be relevant.

I was looking at Seiko railroad pocket watches which are also magnetically protected to maintain accuracy

Pound for Pound that’s the best basic Gshock. But I was a slut and getting the Japan made GW-5000U later in the week.

Great price, I have one I wear alot and would love to double up. I think actually this gshock is the best one someone can get, probably my most worn watch.

If anyone is contemplating getting one, I would say go for it. You won't be disappointed.

Such a good idea. I was sorely tempted to get a Grand Seiko last year when I was in Japan, but like most of my hobbies outside of maybe leathercraft, I only wade in the kiddie pool. I did get a Seiko Alpinist SPB197J1 as a wedding gift from my wife and am happy to stop my climb up the ladder there. I will probably keep modding watches to satisfy the itch of this particular hobby.

I hate this thread, making me buy watches that I don't need.

But no one commented about Citizen vs Seiko. I just heard Seiko QC has been spotty. Just looking at the Promaster Fugu a lot as of late, been calling me. However, I never had an Automatic and that is going to open up a new can of worms if I even go there.

Even if there's a Citizen's dealer a few minutes away from me, I know getting it online is a much better deal.

Both Citizen and Seiko divers are pretty chunky bois, if you are okay with the 44mm then i would get the Citizen over most Seiko's nowadays based on what you get spec wise for the price. (if you like the size and design. I still think Seiko has better designed watches).

Seiko is getting flack nowadays because they are creating new models that are getting more expensive, lowering the specs (no screw down crown on the new Seiko 5 that replaces the SKX), and having iffy QC (primarily chapter ring alignment issues). Long Island Watches is a good place to shop, the owner usually tries his best to make sure you get good QC instances of the watches you get.

As for getting automatics, just know that at this price point there will be a bit of time lose or gain, I think my Seiko gains 25 seconds a day, if you are okay with that then go for it. I personally don't mind but some people do.

This is what I was looking for. Thanks dude. Automatics I'm still iffy but then I realize that my current watches are all G-Shock ATM, so looking for something more normalish. I can live with the time difference.

One of the best daily watches you can buy. The Hamilton Murph 38mm is awesome.

    Got two watches recently.

Casio G-Shock GW-5000U is a $300 G-Shock watch that looks like their other Resin G-Shock Squares. Why the hell I wanted it?
    • Made in Japan.
    • Steel Core Body
    • Screw-In Back (more water resistance)
    • Much better Rubber/Resin band than the majority of lower level G-Shocks.
    • Slightly nicer looking LED screen that's sharper.
    • Updated Module inside the watch with Five Different Time Zones to select, and other QOL enhancements to the built-in software.
It's heavier but not much compared to other G-Shock Squares. But while it doesn't look like a $300 G-Shock, it is the feel on your wrist and the Updated Module makes it a wonderful QOL enhancement. It's a stealth watch, but it is super special when it is on you. Only real negative is it uses a LED backlight that doesn't look nice when compared to the older electro luminescence lights, but you get sharper pixels that way. The older GW-M5610 that had for five years is being retired. This is the square that I'll be using almost daily. If I do traveling this will be the watch I'll be wearing.

With that being said, the lower level G-Shock Squares are much better value than the GW-5000U with almost the same amount of features. Most lower level models even have Mutliband 6 support, like this watch has (if you live in an area with Atomic Clock towers). However, I can't stress enough the QOL enhancement of the 5000U.

My first automatic, the Citizen Promaster Fugu. I set it up yesterday based on my G-Shock watch for time and currently it is at +5 ahead. Most likely will go up daily but honestly I'm not that anal about it for the price. Took me a moment to figure out how the watch work, but once I got it set it everything clicked. It's the Fugu since it has Fugu fins look a like on the watch. Bezel rotates fine but of course higher end watches will be much more nicer to move it. Crown was a little hard to remove but once I looked at the manual I figured it out. Crown is at 8 o clock which I like since I won't have the crown hit a wall or something.

For the price the watch just about have perfect QC, I am not seeing any real issues with it. Feels good on my wrist, and it doesn't wear big even for the size. It's a cool diver watch. I almost went with Seiko but the QC horror stories and them cheaping out the parts made me go back to Citizen (I think for the price I paid for the Fugu something similar to Seiko they wouldn't use a Sapphire Crystal). If you look at posts in this thread from 2019, I did had a bigger Citizen Eco-Drive that I got rid of here for $50 since it was a little too heavy for me and the dial was too busy. It all comes down to the watch that you like the most.

I thought I was going to be annoyed that an Automatic Mechanical will never match a Quartz clock when it comes to time. So far, I am not brother it. Of course if in one day it is running over 30 -/+ seconds then I might need to get it looked at. The experience is very different and interesting for me, since this is my first automatic. I like it a lot for the price. Most likely I'll get more Automatics in the future, provided if i see something that calls my name. Most likely I'll get another Citizen in the future but one of their good Eco-Drive models.

But since I got a watch case, time to go into a rabbit hole:

Almost grabbed a Spring in Japan, but I wasn't perfectly happy with the size and the font of the date display. Felt like a lot of the numbers just looked I guess "a little off" to me. Was kicking myself when I left Japan...

And now the SBGH341 is out. 38mm and the changed the date display as well... not kicking myself anymore... guess I just need some extra funds now...

I have not worn a wrist watch for years. It is just too sweaty here for a leather strap, and I don't like metal bracelets. So I've got out of the habit of wearing them (I use the phone) and will probably stay out of it for ever.

Recently I revisited an instagram account where I had mostly followed engineers, machinists, etc, and was reminded of Nicholas Hako in Australia.

So... I'm just not likely to buy a wrist watch, and even less likely to have $,$$$ with which to do so. But if I ever could... Well, Titanium rocks! So beautiful.

I have handled their watches a couple of times. I like them personally and like the vintage aesthetic. I don't think you would be disappointed getting one.

Love the ecodrive…no fuss and fairly accurate.

The Citizen automatics are decent too. I believe they own Miyota which provides the movements to many watch companies.
