I thought "Kveikur" was a jumping off point to explore a whole new sound. But it wound up sort of being their last album. There's so much more they could do with that sound.
It's kind of a Flaming Lips situation, right? We fans kind of want them to keep making albums like Yoshimi, but if they actually didn't try to move in a new direction, we'd get bored of them.
I find all the new Flaming Lips albums boring haha. I would prefer more exploration of the Yoshimi/Soft bulletin sound. But you'r right, truly creative people want to make new things, not just continue making something that is successful.
