this is hopefully what my setup will look like in 2-3 months...
putting a downpayment on the amp this Friday! Plextor drive is not meme SCSI w a vtg PC, but USB for ultra convenience.
Found a quboz downloader, too, tho no GUI. Gotta rebuild the 160 gb of music I lost in the great data bonfire of 2020. hopefully can find a cd580 or 880 or, if im really going for it, a marantz cd94.
Damn. I haven't heard plextor name in years. I didn't know they are still around. One of the first cd writers I ever bought back in the day. Your setup plans look solid!
yeah i almost got caught up buying a gateway 2000 pc just to rip CDs and i was like, wait what tf am i doing? and thought the better of it, there's a couple models w USB 2.0 so imma go w onna those (roughly 100 on eBay). even if quality isn't *exactly* the same, i don't really care lol.
Back in the day Plextor was TOTL and a$$ expensive but worth the cash; it was one of the more reliable drives that could burn at higher speeds without crapping out. I usually roll with ASUS or LG drives these days personal and work. One thing - why not get a model that support usb3 (if you have a pc rig with usb3 that is). It's like 6 million dollar man faster than usb 2 performance in data transfer and stability.
@Slade01 is on point. Asus drive for today- although I have ripped on a bunch over the years and cannot hear any difference. I can, I think, hear a difference as to where it is ripped to, ssd, spinner, or stick, although that may be playback environ effect. Still nothing to worry about.
so would getting a plextor be like the equivalent of getting an oppo BDP-83 (or actually, 103D) for blu ray playback rather than a new $40 machine? or was plextor just about stability and speed back in the day? no diff in audio quality ig is what i'm asking you both
