I love this idea. It's kind of funny because @zerodeefex and I had been talking about this for a while - how Hollywood just doesn't get the Internet. It may not be this particular solution in the end, but same day releases in your home are inevitable. The Screening Room rental fee includes a hefty kickback to the theaters to appease them, but down the road, we all know the theater chains are fucked. These are purely my opinions and not those of my employer.

Knowing how much it costs to go to the movie theater these days. I'd easily pay $50 for Supes v Bats and invite a few friends over for a backyard projection event.

This sort of thing won't take off until you can load up an app on your existing set top box (Roku, Apple TV, cable box, whatever) and then it'll be like PPV. It won't happen overnight but it'll happen eventually.

Time to dig out the old 720p marantz vp4001 and see if I can find a decent screen material. Taking 4 people to the movies costs $50 already.

Oh man, this service sounds great. Provided the app implementation is good, it probably will spell the end of theaters. That said, I actually appreciate the whole experience of going to the cinema, and its not likely I'll be able to build a home set up of the same scale. Most people probably won't care for that though.

Well, I pretty much have theater in my room(speaker wise) even though im not really a movie person but, the whole 50 dollar thing is kinda high.. I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for a movie even if I had the convenience of my own home to be honest. Yea maybe if I was airing it for neighbors/people and getting some type compensation out of it, then yea, maybe but, just me...nah..

I can see it working in a way but, I think nothing gonna get rid of a good ol' true theater(not the crappier ones where all they use is cheap pa speakers... The good ones with separate horns, bass bins and subwoofers)... most people will spend the time and money for the real experience. If not, they'll most likely be patient enough for it to be released on digital download, blu-ray or, dvd. Not big deal really as I see it.

Yeah, given all the pros and cons, only event movies make it worth going to the theater. Actually, the plethora of leisure choices make movies almost irrelevant to me. I haven't seen the last Avengers movie, or the last superman movie, and I can into free screenings from the company I work for. I end up stumbling on it in Amazon or Netflix. The choices are narrowcasting our behavior, so unless it's a tent pole movie you don't get numbers anymore. How Sean Parker got on this gig continues to amaze, though. I used to watch two movies a week in theaters, back before the Internet, now if I see two a quarter that would be a record. Maybe it's because I spend time on forums like these, lol.

So, I have to buy a separate set top box despite the fact that I have about a half dozen devices in my home theater that are all capable of streaming Netflix/Amazon, etc. AND I have to pay $50 per movie, while a ticket here for anything other than evening shows is like $5-$6. Lol nope.
