I picked up some Deoxit D5S Red (may get Gold too) and some tiny brushes for cleaning the sockets, wondering if Qtips are enough or if I need sandpaper/?

There are mixed opinions on deoxit, some people say the residue it leaves in the sockets turns to disgusting goop at high temps. I stick to 99% isopropyl alcohol. Qtips and isopropyl are good for pins, but sandpaper is too harsh. For tough residue use 0000 wire wool around a qtip. Make sure you carefully remove all wire wool strands afterwards or you can cause a short.

Either an ultrasonic cleaner or a rotary polishing kit with soft buffing tips. That's the only way to get (old rusted) pins to look like brand new.

I use my wife's portable nail file drill. It's like a low speed small dremel, easy to use and get at the back of the pins, wipe with WD circuit cleaner after.

I’m almost in the same boat as Garns. I use a medium bristle toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol. However, I have not had tubes with very dirty pins.

~70% IPA is best for disinfecting stuff, while >90% is best for cleaning due to its volatility.

Thanks for the many recommendations guys! Gonna pick up some 99% isopropyl alcohol and give that a shot with the Qtips.
