Cool they are getting coverage. Weren't my cup of tea when I demoed, though I wonder how much of that was due to the Parasound being used to power them... Would like to try again. EDIT: Just saw they tried with Ragnarok and liked the pairing!
Horns can be pretty damn bright. I liked SET, Aegir, and Pass XA25 with them that all have slightly rounded top ends. Can imagine dry SS with harsh top end being an ice pick in the ears.
Yeah, the Stereophile review mentioned crappy sound with Parasound, so that must be it. Also a small dealer room.
"The Schiit Ragnarok/Klipsch pairing produced consistent magic in terms of bass reproduction, some CDs or LPs creating visceral yet agile, creamy yet forceful, sculpted low-end frequencies.... Bass like buttah!" vs. "[I]t didn't take kindly to the lit-up signature of the Parasound Halo HINT 6."
Josh, how far have you found these need to be from the front wall to give the passive radiator enough room? Thoughts on how they'd do in a video 2.0 setup also used for movies / TV? (Currently use Maggies.) How is image height given that the speakers are relatively short?
Klipsch recommends 12"-24" off the wall. Too close is too boomy, too far away is not enough bass. I found my sweet spot at 16", but have seen pictures both closer or further away depending on side boundries.
Video 2.0 setup - I bet they would do pretty well, but personally dont have much experience as to why I think they would do well. Just they they can product bass and can go very high, good vocal reproduction.
Image height was recently brought up by Stereophile. I sit on a lower chaise, perfect height. Laying on a couch might be perfect too. For a chair or sitting up, raising might help. I was trying to discern how raising the speakers would help the bass as they mentioned in stereophile, but no theories on my end.
There is a showroom in Nashua, Audio Video Therapy, that is a Klipsch Heritage dealer. Bet they might have these setup to try. Met them at last meet, easy to talk to guys who mention they could loan speakers to take home for a night or weekend.
Love AV Therapy. That's actually where I first heard the speakers on that Parasound integrated. My favorite speakers I've tried there so far are Aerial Acoustics floorstanders, but the larger drivers and much higher sensitivity of the Forte III appeal to me given I own Rag 1. Might need to head back up and try the Forte III on my amp this time, or bring home.
