I've always loved Tungsram tubes, so there might be some bias there (if i could live w/ one 12AU7 in the crack.. it would be the Tungsram.. same goes for the E80CC). In the SW51+,this guy has a perfectly proportioned, accurate, hologrpahic headstage. Top tier layering, clarity, and dynamics. Not forward and not laid back in terms of positioning.
Elex & HD6XX. The stock tube is really nice.. and I hate to be hyperbolic.. but the Tungsram smokes it handily. Dynamics are just.. wow. Resolution and timbre, especially midrange timbre are on another level compared to the stock tube. The Tungsram combines a lot of things I like about my other tubes into one.
Gives a serious jolt when a sleepy dac like the Modi 3 is in the chain. Thing is, the Tungsram is not an aggressive/forward tube.. but it's not laid back (of course).. just bold, very holographic, resolving, balanced, and dynamic. Pairs exceedingly well with the Elex & HD6XX.
Good looking out. I'll have to try a coupla those whenever a SW51+ finally migrates to my door to go with my trusty HD6xx's. Sounds uncannily up my alley. Everything you're describing is exactly what I like about what a Phillips PCC88 does to a Vali 2.
