why aren't "modding artists" getting paid by headphone companies to consult + make stock sound better??

@jexby in my experience it's because headphone manufacturers hate damping and soft materials because they add assembly time. Anything that requires new part variants to be developed with high MOQs from upstream suppliers makes profit margins slimmer by a fraction of a percent, which is a huge difference when you're talking about tens or hundreds of thousands of units.

What headphone is this? You haven't heard the mini loaner yet :p edit - Mini is 220g

Haha, that's why they're still 'candidate'. But they qualifies by easily slaying 6x0 senns, grados, and other lightweight hps I heard before.

Beside, it may take months to hear mini myself (seems not until summer looking at the tour list)..

@gixxerwimp It's heavily (I think) modded yamaha hp-1. Feels like a JAR580 on a planar-magnetic steroid. Dialing them in with eq for tonality, but lots of technicality wonders already there.

I have a YH-100 modded by dBel84 and it also sounds amazing. Those vintage ortho drivers are something else. Too bad they need soft materials for proper damping, otherwise there could have been some awesome off-the-shelf headphones out there.

Mine (loaner tbh lol) is done by RD. I already thought unmodded hp1 surprisingly decent.. but the mods metamorphosed it to a monster.
