Would love to hear your thoughts on LIM vs. GA1! I've read the A1 and OG share a similar tonality, but what about the TI-chipped LIM? I love my GA1, and would only blind buy a YA2/OG, but the LIM definitely has me interested.
In addition, I think that I (just speaking for myself) just like the sound of these classical Moffat DACs. I had a Theta DS Pro Progeny and then the Gungnir A1, both of which share the same characteristics. They don't sound like vinyl records, but from a CD or 44.1k streaming device, they have a quite distinctive Moffat sound, very lively and emotional. Maybe a little "hot" to others.
Two of my closest audiophile friends think that my system sounded the best with the LIM, much better than the G A1. But to me, their systems are on the delicate side.
For those who love the Gungnir A1 sound and wanted to blind-order a Yggdrasil flavor, I'd suggest to opt to the OG flavor. The LIM is a departure from the Gungnir A1 sound. But it is just my gut feeling without any prove. My OG upgrade is waiting for the next batch of OG cards.
Oh shoot, I remember actually reading your detailed impressions in that thread! But good to put an avatar to a name now lol. Thanks for the additional recounting of your experiences with these amazing DACs! I tried to get on the LIM loaner, but it was already dead and over :[ but hope to one day hear both the LIM and the OG! For now, my GA1 is serving me quite well.
I am sorry if the word confused you. OG (AD5791) is one of the "Yggdrasil upgrades" options on the schiit official website. I bet if I wrote "sidegrade to OG" as an "order", it would be more confusing.
Ha, yeah I was a bit confused. Went to the Schiit site to clear things up. It's definitely listed as an "upgrade", but it's more like a retro "flavour change" ;)
