With the current trend, well.. HD900 will come out when half life 3 comes out. The big companies are just trying to have a general headphone shape and let DSP handle the rest...they care about real acoustics only to varying degrees but tbh at this rate, I think pure acoustical nice hp's are gonna go extinct.

where can they even go after the 800 series? and without axel grell, do you think they can even go past it and create something truly innovative this decade? maybe a $6k-ish baby orpheus-like electrostat? a new dynamic, 800-sized driver with 6x0 timbre and tonality?

@ext1 that's so sad... but I feel like you're absolutely right.

Weren't there some rumors that they were trying to sell off their headphone division at some point? I don't think they're looking to innovate so much anymore.

I don't think it's possible for a summit-fi headphones to have the 650/600 timbre, that natural timbre needs slow drivers.

If I where Sennheiser I would improve upon the 800 with better bass and tonality and easily slap $4000 price tag on it and call it HD1000.

IE800 was followed by the IE900, if they do a successor to the HD800 indeed, my money is on it being called HD 900. Until that gotta enjoy the 800S2.

I thought Senn consumer was sold to Sonova. I was hoping they revive innovation.

Senn has released some interesting-ish IEMs recently, no? Doesn't seem like they've ground to a halt on enthusiast head-fi necessarily. And, yeah, it'd be excellent to get an HD800 update or a new TOTL e-stat from them.

I assumed things would change when Axel Grell left, and then they were sold off.

My question is why would they? There are already Utopias, ZMF Atria and others. I'm all for anyone coming out with something new, but I don't think they can compete unless it sets one or two benchmark levels in terms of performance or cost.
