I was a lot more positive on them than some in the group. I especially appreciated the scale and dynamics it could do on the full orchestra piece we heard. I've heard better, more holographic imaging elsewhere but for me the realistic tone and dynamics were unparalleled, Of course they are ridiculously impractical, even before you consider the asking price.
I enjoyed the Imperia early on. Hearing orchestral level dBs with no distortion was impressive. More spare, vocal-centric tracks were also great, although the scale/stage is so overwhelming it is kind of like hearing a 20-foot tall blues singer in front of you. DeVilles also impressed me. Huge, detailed, clean sound from a large-ish standmount.
I wish everything was played 10dB lower in volume. Overall super fun and great to meet folks in person. (Thanks for dinner also! Was that you @Pocomo ?)
I agree Jonathan likes to demo way too loud, but everything did sound good at the elevated volumes. The Muddy Waters tracks in teh Imperia did seem to be presented at IMAX scale, agree!
The Devilles driven by the Technics class D were very impressive - huge sound out of an 8" 2-way - but thinking about it I believe a lot of that has to do with the space he has them in. The exact same rig wouldn't sound anything like that in my 14x17 living room :(
