My system is Pi2AES -> Yggdrasil A1 -> a cheap switch converting Bal to SE -> Vali 2+ -> Weiliang A60+ -> (ifi iesl).
The Hive after a little pad rolling sound full enough and the bass is really punchy, not that "LCD2.2 pre-fazor full" or "TH900 punchy", but really good enough. OG pads are good enough too. Plus its clear mids, it sounds great.
On the other hand, Bee... it just sounds off to me. It reminds me of some bad horn sound when I was a student. I can't describe but maybe it's like you are in a yard and the horns are playing music, but you aren't at the right spot or distance so it sounds empty and annoying? I know it's like I'm describing some lack of bass, but actually the bass is really powerful, and what's missing is the treble.
The weird sounding of Bee kind of reminds me of Audioquest Nighthawk, some weird speaker-like(?) sound I can't put my finder on, but I loved Nighthawk eventually (especially after I settled on the velour pads), can't say the same thing for Bee. Maybe I need to find some more breathable pads for it. (The dimension of Bee's pads is smaller than normal headphones, sigh)
@Philimon I liked Hive a lot and I was lazy reading at that time. The "dark old Audeze sound" description, I thought it was like LCD 2.2 pre-fazor sound, which is great, but actually, nope!
The Pads dimension looks the same on both models, but getting Brainwavz to China is quite... not worthy for me. Yea... fixing Bee can be rough...
