theres some $20 usb to spdif devices on amazon unless you actually mean spdif to usb in which case your dac is using your laptop as a dac?

secondly, yes the latter case, i want my vintage, USB-less DAC to play 24/7 to burn in some caps i installed today, and i need a DDC to convert coax to usb, not the other way around

I am still confused how converting spdif to usb is helpful to play your dac 24/7 if your dac has no usb? How is the dac outputting spdif if it isn't playing already? Maybe you can use an external sound card for spdif optical in and output usb from the laptop? It still sounds like you are trying to send the signal backwards to me.

Won't your DAC continue to burn in even if there's nothing connected to the spdif out? It's still converting, you just can't hear it.

Just hook up any amp so it's seeing a normal load rather than an open circuit and let it burn.

What I originally suggested~ usb -> spdif device to spdif in, or often laptops have toslink spdif out on the 3.5mm jack in which case you just need a cable but maybe some sfd-1 have the toslink input swapped with an aes input?

Yep, I have ST optical but no toslink lol. Also my MBA doesn’t have optical in the 3.5mm jack like my 2011 MBP did
