I really liked the Lyr+ in low gain with the Utopia too. Gentle, pretty resolving, and engaging.

For whatever reason I've preferred low gain on every amp I've owned, Lyr included. One of us!

I frequently find that low gain sounds more natural. I can pick up more acoustical cues from the concert hall or studio.

Yes. Team Lo-Gain. I find it more natural and open sounding. More room cues, more space, more tone - if that's possible. I always thought high gain was my jam, but low gain with a nice tube in the Lyr+ is remarkable. I can't wait to put my headphones on. I also can't wait to hear this amp with the Auteur Classics I am patiently/not-so-patiently waiting on.

@zonto , "pretty" really captures the sound of the Lyr+ in low gain.

You owe it to yourself to hear a black glass Ken Rad in your Lyr if you haven't already!

I have the Clear glass VT231 Ken Rad and it is spectacular. I have a note in with Brent Jesse about the black glass. He recommended I check in after the holidays. I also like the brown base sylvania WGT and weirdly, the new EHs for pop music.

Went down the HQPlayer/AKM DSD Direct rabbit hole tonight (thanks for hooking me up Geno Geshelli): low gain on the Lyr+>KenRad Blackplate Clear Glass>HD600s is exceptional. Team Low Gain, indeed. Even when I'm not listening to it, I'm thinking about listening to it.
