I'm looking to mod a K550 and Beyerdynamic T70 for use with a detachable cable, what brand of jack does everyone use for something as this? I'm just not sure if a radio shack unit would be the most durable, I'd gladly spend more for this so I don't have to do it again :)

Anything with a metal body should be fine. Neutrik/Rean are a common choice. If you're not opposed to something else, mini-xlr would be better and it gives you the option to go balanced.

I really appreciate the response, but I'm likely too cheap for mini-XLR :) ... Wouldn't the only budget XLR cables be available for AKG's? I don't really believe in a lot of the cable hype, let alone that balanced would be needed for a 9' headphone cable...

Would a mini XLR jack fit? Those are much more robust a connection than mini jacks. Otherwise, I'd try to find something from Switchcraft.
