One driver of my HD580 measures amazingly well compared to the other.

    Amazeballs driver:

    Regular driver:

Both were measured in the same housing, under the exact same conditions... minus maybe fatigue made me seat the headphone 1-2mm off from the last position. I measured 10 times each side to make sure I wasn't going crazy, though.

The "regular" driver measures pretty much like the HD600 and HD650 drivers (I have access to both). This headphone was at the SBAF meet two weeks ago, and at that time, we didn't think much of it (Findley and CEE TEE told me this pair was good, though). Hell, I didn't measure the left side until today because I thought the distortion was just my mods doing something weird. But no, it wasn't the mod, it was the driver.

So now this begs the question: is this an anomaly? Or does there exist an actual "golden" pair of HD580 that has both drivers being this amazeballs? Also can we actually do something to a regular driver to make it this good?

I'm kinda tempted to start collecting them to find out...

In case you're wondering how the amazeballs driver sounds like: imagine HD600/650 sound but with bass that's on par with HD800/planar.

If you need pics of the actual physical drivers, I'll rip them out of the housing in the morning and take some super high res photos. I've gotta hit the hay now.

P.S.: at least this means I wasn't going crazy. I have readjusted my mods so many times because the left side always sounded more muffled than the right... but now I know why.

Apparently in some Chinese forums it is said that some drivers with "black line copper ring" and just copper ring/no ring in 580/600 from the 90s sounded differently.
And black paper baffle/ black nylon baffle/ white paper(wool?) baffle make differences as well.
    That might be the case?
    here's a dude comparing different 580s
