I own a pair of hifiman he400i, I removed the grills today (because I was bored) and found that the diaphragm is wrinkled =[ I do remember dropping it at like 0.5m a while ago which is probably the cause for this disaster.
I'm sure there is some measurable differences but my ears just aren't sensitive enough to detect them. (good thing I guess?)
Dynamic driver headphones should be less prone to shocks due to the usually smaller diaphragm meaning it will be more rigid
First 2 pics are the left drivers and the last pic is the right:

Traces look more consistent/less wrinkled than the HE1000 that I saw a while ago. There's still a pic of that one somewhere on here.

That could totally be a Hifiman thing, and not necessarily a "planar" thing...

My old 400i I used to have had this stock from the factory. I wouldn't be too concerned about it as I see it on most hifiman driver pics around the net.

    Good advice for any headphones.

I've dropped my LCDs a few times (some others too), happily they're ok. It's always the same reason: I'll have a pair sitting on my table and the hanging cable gets pulled by my clumsy feet. Hiding the cable better under the table helps, though.

And no, I'm not going to keep the ones used in their box. That's how they get no use. Same goes for guitars - they need to be handy when you're in the mood.

Did this really deserve its own thread?

Not really... but I'll let it live on for a little while unless the OP disappears.

No. The proliferation of threads, especially about marginal and/or obvious topics, is a surefire way to kill accessibility to actual information.

Gunner has this under control, but your editorial is unnecessary. Lol.

OK, I really lol'd this time.

Reading at a distance, I thought the thread was about dropping off planars at @OJneg's place for use as fireplace fuel.

Wrinkles in the diaphragm seem normal for at least the new generation of HFM headphones. That's not caused by a drop. As long as sonics are not affected, I would not worry about it. If you are worried, you can always ship them off to one of the local measurebators here.

I can't say for certain though because Jude got the HFM ambassador to SuperBAF, @No_One411 fired from his job.

This might deserve it's own thread. I am sure others have seen the wrinkles themselves and wondered the same thing. Thread title should be changed.

despite the fact that drivers are just a super-thin little film of whateverthefuck, they seem to generally be pretty durable little guys. I've had shitty amps distort/crinkle the f**k out of a few of different headphones, and have yet to see one come away sounding audibly different. Most people online seem to say the same (notable exceptions arising around a lot of Audeze stuff tho, from what I've read), I know I saw a post Hands made about wrinkling his 650 driver and fixing it with no impact on performance.

Which is weird to me, given that tons of people hear a difference from burn-in, which seems like it should have way less of an impact on sound than stressing a driver past it's yield to crease it
    but whatever.

    God works in mysterious ways.

What do you mean? I think there should be a thread for each of the following: fraying cables, scratched housing, worn out earpads, squeeky hinges.
