When I got tired of that, my contingency was to drop Tidal and go to Qobuz (not the only reason I switched, but it did play a part in the decision)

I gotta update an iPod with offline music in the tidal app. That’s the true contingency plan. Along with a few fully charged lightning cable chargers and some good headphones that are easy to drive.

Have a vintage DAC on the way to me that does a max of 48k sample rate.

I'm using BubbleUPnP and Moode for my pi2AES.
What's the correct way to limit the sample rate on music from streaming services? Am I changing the setting in BubbleUPnP? I did that and it makes it look like my phone will do some of the heavy lifting, though that doesn't sound right.

I don't want to gimp the capabilities of my new (old) DAC because I screwed up the settings or am having the wrong part of the system do conversion. This is my first foray into vintage DACs so I want to do it correctly.

Bit off topic but let me know if you know some good synergy pairings for the iPod? my gen 5.5 should be arriving tomorrow and im probably going to just use the cheapo ZeroAudio tenores on it for now. Need to to get some IEMS or something easy & comfy.

Back on Topic @Erroneous while i still wait for my Pi2AES to arrive, im connecting with Moode & Roon to MXU8 DDC, then spdif to my SFD-1 mk2 DAC, which also a vintage dac that only does 44.1/48KHz. With the Tidal integration seems like i just need to set the MQA to "decoder only" (Edit: Also setting in Advanced for the max Sample rate to be up to 48KHz) and it seems to fetch the sample rate correctly (someone please let me know if theres a better / more proper way in case im totally wrong here)

Side side note. Can't wait until i get my Pi2AES! =)

Looking for help with MoOde. Chain: Audirvana -> UPnP -> Pi2AES w/ MoOde -> coax Bifrost.

I've had both Ropieee XL and Volumio working but random restarts have gotten annoying so I decided to try MoOde. Everything appears to be working except the output. I can play in Audirvana and see the track playing in MoOde but I get no audio. I'm sure this is just some random setting in the audio menu but I can't figure out which one. Any thoughts?

What do you have configured as the I2S Audio Device? I would also make sure the volume is turned up on MoOde, I disable this feature by going to the MPD Config and setting the Volume Mixer to Fixed (which always plays at 100%). I assume you've also tried re-plugging cables to the DAC, amp, etc to ensure they're fully inserted?

I2S is "none". I tried a few of the different Pi2Designs options and Allo options but they didn't work. Just set Volume Mixer to "fixed" but that made no difference. All cable connections have been checked and rechecked.

I set it to "HifiBerry Digi+ Pro" and that works. It definitely won't work if you use "None". Also, an easy mistake that I've made, be sure to press the "SET" button right next to the setting. I find the UX a bit funky but you get used it after it bites you in the butt a few times.

Yup I *just* came across that driver setting after setting my ego aside and reading the fucking manual. Section 7.1 "the PI2AES can use the HifiBerry Digi+ Pro driver". Surprise, surprise, it works. Thanks for your time \/

Hmm ... Lots of SW discussion not directly related to PI2AES. Maybe there could be another thread specifically for these issues?

moOde 7.1.0 now reflects a RoonBridge Renderer, my previous post about how to install RoonBridge within moOde has been updated. See here.

Due to licensing issues, moOde is not an "official" Roon product. However, you can just install RoonBridge yourself and boom you get the best of both worlds.

The buffered i2s output on pi2aes is really helpful with DIY DACs with i2s input.
The DAC is phidecadac from diyaudio based on TDA1387 with NOS 7th order filter.
The patch cables are 15cms long.
As compared to usb input (USB TO i2s board), i2s is more relaxed, better definition/texturing across the spectrum, spaces b/w notes are more blacker, bass is more tighter. Low level details are better perceived . There is more depth to the music.
    Thanks @Michael Kelly
Thanks @uniqusrname for the the DAC.

If you don’t mind a little Pi2AES troubleshooting...

I’m trying to setup my second Pi2AES for my speaker rig. It was working before for my headphone rig and I named it mode speakers. The other is named moode headphones. I sent it to Pi2AES to get fixed there was a bad pin or something. But I assumed the memory card would be the same so it would still work. But it isn’t picked up by bubbleupnp. I thought both Pi2AES would show up as options.

so I figured inorder to configure it I would need to unplug my headphonene Pi2AES do moode local would know which one to connect to. Which I did and I plugged the speaker Pi2AES into Ethernet. And moods.local wouldn’t load. So I re-flashed moose onto the card and tried it again and moode.local still won’t load. I must be missing a step here.

<hostname>.local is network magic that may or not work depending on the phase of the . The only way I achieved reliable <hostname>.local was to configure my (Ubiquiti, UniFi) routers explicitly. Before that, I relied on IP addresses to visit my moOde and Ropieee boxes.

If you did a fresh burn of the image, Moode will boot up in AP mode with an IP of 172.24.1.1. Connect to that IP with your browser, then jump into Configure -> Network and set it up to work on your network. Don't forget that once you change the network settings and reboot, you can't connect to it with AP mode IP address anymore. Maybe moode.local will work again.

Use the setup/config of your wifi router — should be through a web browser on the router's IP address (might something like 192.168.0.1), or your router might use a phone app for config. After you login to your router, it should show connected devices and one of them should be Moode connected on the Ethernet. If you don't see it, then Moode isn't connecting to your network.
