So Erzetich has been around for several years producing what appears to be good quality equipment. However, talk of his headphone amps is minimal to non existent.

Anyone here have any experience with Erzetich headphone amps? Specifically with the Medousa?

I've seen this amp before, but decided to look away after checking out its specs.

We're looking at headphone amp costing nearly $4K. According to the website, it is not a pure tube amp but a hybrid amp (with tube gain stage and SS ouput). Also, it is supposedly fully balanced.

In my experience, hybrid and SS amps usually output more power than their pure tube counterparts. Even more so if they are fully balanced.

And yet, even single-ended triode amps in the $3K range, such as Stratus and Studio B, can output up to around 2 wpc. Then why does this hefty-looking, fully balanced, hybrid amp costing $4K only output 0.3 wpc?

I know power isn't everything, but it looks like it has barely enough power to drive most orthos, let alone my Code-X.

I noticed that as well. I don't own any power hungry orthos. I use it with the Stellia, Clears, and Empyreans. There is plenty of headroom to drive those phones. The thing sounds great. I like it much better compared to the Lyr and Vali 2 I owned. I think you'd be impressed if you could hear it. It's transparent, dynamic, and overall fun amp.

I pointed out to my dealer that his price point puts him against stiff, well reviewed, competition.

I just find it interesting that he's a sole guy hand building good stuff without any significant recognition in the western world. Seems like just the guy that would flourish on these sites. I'm not versed in Slovenian language, so I can't comment on his presence in eastern Europe.
