FS: Eddie Current Zana Deux SE

The Zana Deux was my dream amp but the opportunity to buy another amp I’ve been interested in for a while came up right after I bought the Zana. Now that I have that amp in house, I don’t think I’ll use the Zana and it’s too nice to gather dust.

I also bought an RCA VT-229 I’ll include for free in addition to the stock Tung-Sol 6SL7. It helps with the tiny bit of hash I hear in the top end.

I paid a bit over $1800 after PayPal fees but I’ll sell the amp and extra tube for net $1750, and will cover insured shipping within the US as well.

Outside of the US, I can subtract whatever the cost of shipping from here in MA to CA (probably the highest continental US shipping cost) would be and you can cover the difference. This will come in two boxes.

Friends and contributors first, then will open up to everyone else and post elsewhere next week.

This is SO. COOL. and a fantastic deal.

Whoever buys this: love it, cherish it—I heard a Moth prototype (what became the ZD/S/SE) and the tone is absolutely gorgeous, it macros impeccably, it slams when called for, and did I mention the tone is to die for? This is likely the best OTL you'll ever find at this price range.

 

ZD SE is an incredible amp, and one of a few that will always have me considering purchase. Those MIG Radar toobs will take your flesh right off, but it's soooo worth it. Damn. This one better stay here.

An Oliver Sayes two chassis amp with a cool rectifier?
Is that a full DHT amp? 300B/801A perhaps?

After listening again, I think I’ll really miss the smoothness and wetness this has over the Sayes amp but I’m not made of money, so I’ll just be jealous of whomever gets this next.

Is that the one that was on USAudiomart and is a speaker amp? Are you running it off the speaker taps?

 

It is! It has a headphone out (really just an XLR plug with resistors) so while it isn’t “ideal” for headphones it’s still the best amp I’ve heard this side of a Studio T. It’ll do double duty running headphones and (previously) Ron’s Lii speakers.

Quick question for all the experts on EC amps out there..

What’s the difference between the ZD/S/SE versions? Ive been trying to look for evolution history of the amp, to see what’s changed over the years, and assess if any tubes/other maintenance will be required soon.

I’ve only had two low maintenance headphone amps (Valhalla and WA7 Fireflies) for my HD800s, so just want to ensure I know what I’m getting into. And it’s a good fit. From all I’ve read it is, just need some warm and fuzzies before pulling trigger.
