Thanks for clearing that up. I guess it's the same principle as a bass reflex port on a speaker then. Still strange why some planars lose more bass with a bit of extra leakage. Maybe their pads are inherently more leaky and too much leakage takes it too far and it drops off.

Didn't think about that, mine have the AR coat. Better check by glasses privilege.

since I do not have the 1.1 foam yet, I decided to take out one white sheet from behind the pads, that added detail and air but was now way too thin sounding, however adding the 2ply tp as suggested plus one black tuning pad, did the trick, kept most of the detail and air and added a thicker and bassier (more sub bass particularly) sound to it.

edit: wow alot more subbass now but I can't help but feel the bass is also a tad smeared sounding.

edit2: put the tp behind the pads instead so it's flatter and more uniform, not so smeared sounding any more.

For me 1.1 > 1.0. It has improved some of the sharpness, to my ears.... It might be borderline significant after all, but i have been changing too many things at once to be sure. I haven't tried toilet paper.

Got the 1.1 mod and while it's better than 1.0 stock, my tp modded 1.0ish mod sounded better, simply more detail and air. I also tried tp all the way down but that was too harsh sounding even with 3 sheets of tp.

I was wondering how would these tp modded compare to the omni in
    -bass quality
    -mids
    -treble smoothness
    -instrument timbre
    And
    -soundstage.
anyone happen to have heard both?

Been modding the Ether C the whole weekend.
TP smoothed the transients, just made dynamics and vocals a bit blurry.
With huge hole in the middle was better but things still sounded veiled.

I find thin sheet of fabric with no holes between the white felt and 1.1 foam worked the best:

Smoothed treble but doesn't sound rolled off, Dynamics! especially the bass is now more present. Soundstage and details are better
and actually hearing things i've not heard before (I know, so overused thing to say) but it's weird. The treble and fatigue don't take
the focus so the details in the midrange become more vivid.

Truly, TRULY endgame headphone now for me with the Chord Mojo...
Open headphones can't achieve the same immersion and connection to the music IMO... Finally proud that I spent 1700$ on these.

You need the audiophile approved TP that doesn't cause smearing. Try some wet wipes to make it more liquid.

Seriously though, the cheapo stinky pinky TP isn't bad on the etherC

I with the Mojo had the bass boost that the Fiio 12a MonteBlanc IEM ed has. Nice easy combo with the EtherC for genre that need a little more thickness. Still not to bad for a portable rig with a DF red as the DAC. I want to print up some fazor style waveguides to see how they work on the set.
