Not a back pedaling. Simpy offering more insight since I ruffled some feathers, obviously. For those on a tight budget who look first and foremost at value proposition, the Modi2 MB is very difficult (if not impossible) to beat. Those who want the better DAC for perhaps a more resolving setup, the Yiggy is still what you want.

I have now introduced myself in the main intro thread :)

I find it hard to reconcile these two statements. Can you please expand on the thoughts? I'm not being sarcastic, I'd really like to read your thoughts on this.

I have a Modi Multibit and I've heard the Yggdrasil. We also did a comparison at a meet similar to yours, but with a modi 2 SD and a Yggdrasil. Some were able to tell the difference, and some were not, or the difference was minor. Was more obvious with different tracks to some.

Finally got my music collection on my dad's laptop using an external hard disk. Wow, earlier I was feeling that the Omni isn't that much better than the hifiman he-400i, but I can't believe my own ears now. It's like I'm listening to a completely different headphone than before. It's perplexing how the vocals are so intimate and engaging while maintaining the grand soundstage.

I can't even comprehend how much better the Yggdrasil can really be than this. But then again no one can really comprehend what a GOD level dac sounds like until they hear it...

I also feel that a dac should be given more time to judge than the limited and rather rushed time you get at meets. Super quick comparisons and thoughts may very well change drastically as one gets to really know and understand the dacs capabilities.

Has anyone had any luck connecting the Modi Multibit to an android device?

Yep, just used an OTG adaptor and mostly UAPP/Onkyo HF player. Worked fine.

in my early tests of multi bit modi, trying to connect to an iPhone with the Lightning to USB cable adapter and USB cable into Modi Multibit resulted in
"this accessory can not be used because it draws too much power."

can anyone confirm this still occurs? there was some chance/rumor of a "lower power" USB draw/firmware possible in future by @schiit .
    TIA

That's Wyrd, as the Modi Multibit doesn't draw much actual current from USB- it just needs enough on the VBUS for signalling that USB is active. I'd expect that more on a DAC like the built-in one on the Jot, which appears to be USB powered. Stupid question, it was properly mains powered, right?

I have run my Modi Multibit from my iPad with a standard issue Lightning CCK many times, without problems other than the occasional iOS/CCK DRM chip fail (which is not the fault of any devices connected to it). If all else fails, you could pay through the nose for the new variant CCK with a secondary power connector?

Schiit recommends a powered usb hub to overcome that issue, I believe.

I've been reading about how you should leave a multibit DAC on 24/7 and was concerned about power usage over the course of a month, so I wrote to Schiit asking about how much kWh the Modi Multibit would pull after being on and idle for about 24 hours and got the following reply: "It would be in the vicinity of 0.192kWh"

    Nice.

I just tried the Modi Multibit with an iPhone 6 Plus. No errors. Worked fine.

Yeah, I was wondering about much the same thing. But then I looked at the charger, and it draws only 0.5A. So it isn't worse than leaving your average smartphone on charge 24/7...

It also works fine out of my rooted htc one m8. But my laptop can't install the drivers for some reason. It doesn't recognize it as an USB 2.0 device which is preventing me from installing the driver's from schiit's website as well... It works fine on my dad's laptop but I can't keep it for listening music for long.

Cool, so that's about $0.02 per month...

Ha! Here in Hawaii it's 100x that (still not a lot of $ but the relative difference is staggering sometimes).

    According to this: http://www.neo.ne.gov/statshtml/204.htm
your rate is 26 cents per kWh.

That's still only about 5 cents total :p

Modi Multibit's heat is a bit worrying. I'm too scared to leave them on 24/7. But I'm sure schiit knows their schiit so I'll shut up now.

If you are running w8 or later, it might be a signature enforcement issue. I have had to disable signature enforcement on numerous different w8 or later pc's to get usb drivers to install/run with various dacs. I also found that with schiit's drivers, the appropriate drivers for the Modi MB would not self install because my PC that I use for music playback (w10) had not received all current updates from ms, as it was not set to automatically connect to my network. As soon as it got up to date after connecting to the internet, connecting the MB and powering it up resulted in the drivers self-installing as they are supposed to (after signature enforcement was disabled, of course). I just Googled how to disable driver signature enforcement for directions. Good luck.

I think your calculation is for 1 day (24hrs). The site I used shows $0.351/kWh for Honolulu, HI. Schiit says the Modi Multibit uses 0.192kWh/24hrs, so:
    0.192 * .351 * 31 (longest month) ~= $2.09

    $2.09 ~= 100x $0.02 (your calculation)

EDIT: Not sure why the forum converts the character I used (tilda) to a minus, but "~=" should read as "approximately equal to"
