Actually, I just wanted to get your attention. I have no problem at all with people who enjoy listening to the Utopia and who can justify spending the money to get a pair.

That said, I have a personal problem associated with the distinction between "that which is good" and "that which is good enough". We live on planet advertising. I interpret many ads to be sprouting one primary message: "Hey you! You're not going to be as happy as me unless you buy this new thing that I have!" Sometimes I buy into this rubbish. Part of me is made to feel dissatisfied with the good things I have already.

If you hang around SBAF you hear lots of eloquent and convincing words written about the merits of many high end rigs. It's also probably true that these people and this gear crap on the likes of the DT250s I used straight out of my laptop for quite a while. However, there are many, many, many more important things in life than audio equipment.

This is my experience: Spending money on audio gear better spent elsewhere only buys you stress and despair. Are you on $20K a year with a family to feed? Don't go to a meet and listen to high end gear if you think you'll come away wanting to spend the family's savings on a $1K amp. Does the constant reading of HF or even SBAF make you yearn for the finer things meant for those with deep pockets and copious amounts of disposable income? Walk away from these forums.

    @ohhgourami

I really, really, really dislike this comment you made:

"This is a hate for the poor man’s mentality – a mentality of powerlessness towards the outcome of one’s life."

Sure. An external locus of control isn't helpful. However, I strongly suspect that not everyone is in a position to control the outcome of their lives. There are genuine victims out there, who have experienced things that put severe restrictions on their ability to shape the outcome of the hours they spend here on the earth. A mentality of powerlessness can be the result of a reality of powerlessness.

And you can continue to dislike that comment. Are there genuine victims out there? Absolutely. Are a majority of people in that category? Hell no. If you read my disclaimer, I paint with a broad brush.

I'm speaking to the majority of "victims" that have a problem called learned helplessness. My point is that people need to get out of the poisonous mentality of denying there is something better. I have no issues with people settling. We all have to draw the line somewhere.

I think you need to draw a better distinction between your so called learned helplessness vs non-privileged upbringing.

Many people work just as hard and have the same ambitions, but did not come from affluent backgrounds nor had ready jobs waiting in the family company with connections to move higher.

Who said don't let 'perfect' be the enemy of 'good enough' ? A good concept to adopt in many areas of one's life, IMO...

Does this rant have anything to do with your personal dilemma over your fancy amp you ordered? I'm a broke dad, and that doesn't stop me from being curious about these super elite headphones and related gear. I just choose not to be envious of the SBAFers that make way more then me. They deserve what they get...

I'll have some fancy gear too. I'll just consider myself lucky that I wont make anymore wasteful purchases. Let others with the funds be the Guiana pigs...

@ohhgourami, I get concerned when talk of individualism is paired with some judgement on whom are the worthy vs. unworthy victims. Is that judgment yours to make? If so, on what authority?

EDIT: I don't even understand why I wrote this. I'm not going to f'ing change your mind.

I think he means inner poverty as opposed to external poverty.

@ohhgourami, I think here is the problem when it comes to audio appreciation: Not everybody likes the same things or have the same goals. One has to keep it humble.

I've heard many times the HD6x0 is a mid-fi can. It depends who you ask, but to me it is not. It's pretty hi-fi to me. There are a variety of points of view about this. Some folks will say the HD800 is the sex, the SR009 is the sex, the HE6 is the sex, the KSC-75 is the sex...

To me, if you remove the $ variable from the equation, I think the HD6x0 beats all of the above in the ways that matter to me. Including the HE-6 running of a nuclear plant.

And not everyone agrees with me. And who cares. I like them.

The only thing I would look forward to is perhaps improving my source (amp and/or DAC) and that's it. Other than that, money not a problem, I would not bother with anything HiFiMan, including the HE6. I would go for an HE60 or something of the likes. And if I can't get it and I really want it, then I would just make it myself like Milos did.

But at some point, to me, I would just spend the cash I have in putting together a nice room with some awesome speakers. Or take the family out.

Now, I do get your point about not using one's time wisely. But TBH, I actually did not hear HD6x0 at the meet. Anyone may disagree, but I listened to some stuff out of a DNA amp with the Utopias, and did not like much. Used my Porta Pros on the same amp, and I liked. Go figure. Donald was afraid the Porta Pros where going to break. Turns out they are less efficient than Grados, and probably Utopias.

Many spend time on Doug's stuff and Milos stuff. I did also, because I never heard those particular models (amps and headphone) until this time around. And have not seen friends in a while. Hell, I haven't seen @Marvey until that meet. If anything, I regret not going out to lunch with all of the guys. I really missed @LFF, @OJneg, and VoldeMike. I really enjoyed the Taiwanese restaurant @Marvey took us one time on a meet @ some HiFi store close to Calabasas. And one of the dinners we had in that Persian place after one of the HF meets. It was awesome.

    What I meant to write...
@ohhgourami, I don't like how you used the word fag and I don't like the pejorative tone used when talking about progressives especially because this place sucks when politics are brought into it.

This is not the place to discuss learned helplessness, inner or outer poverty .... it's for headphones and most recently 2 channel gear.

You gonna call the PC police on me? I'm guessing you're still crying that Ohio is now a red state.

My thread and tone was a throwback to the changstar days. Don't take me too seriously.

Actually, it is. You know how often I talk sense into people who ask me about buying gear in PMs? Audiophila makes people do a lot of stupid or shitty things. All this has to do with internal frame of mind. These are expensive toys.

Calling people fags isn't a throwback to the Changstar days. I know because I was staff then too and would have called that shit out then, just as I do now.

Are you kidding me? Using the term kike is incredibly offensive. I don't care if you claim to be Jewish or not. It's simply not ok. My family didn't go through hell 75 years ago so you could casually throw around "kike".

True, hence the ongoing fight against Head Fi. That thread for advice for noobs should be stickied. I think @ohhgourami screwed up by bringing politics into it. My post reflected my frustration with that.

You missed the point. The term fag is as offensive as the word kike FWIW, my mother is Holocaust survivor, I get it...
