I have recently discovered that it is possible to win, and win big, at online poker while being so intoxicated that one can only see out of one eye while having very little idea what any of the card values or combinations might amount to. Praise Jesus. Also praise Aldi, Sainsbury, Fullers, Banks, Adnams, Greene King, and all those dedicated to this holy and happy pursuit. And a big shout out to Sennheiser and Shure for making stuff which mostly blocks the sound of police helicopters while allowing me to drink and gamble my way to fame/imfamy. ttfn.

Sounds like someone is running good. Enjoy it while it lasts.

You're on a roll. You don't need that eye. Keep going.

In all seriousness though, online poker and alcohol and/or sleep deprivation is a dangerous combo for your wallet.

I quit on-line poker because life was too important. You can become very good and successful when you put in the hours. Those hours though cost you your social life and actually physically moving around.

Poker is only a game. Life is not a game...

While I completely disagree with the U.S. government's action to effectively ban online poker in the U.S. in the last decade, personally stopping playing online poker was extremely beneficial to me (and I was a significant long-term winner who studied the game and played with a fair amount of discipline). But it was very taxing and emotionally draining, particularly when I had a full-time job at the time and tried to play at night. I wish I had the ability to play the occasional hour of poker online, but on balance am happy to no longer play (now my game playing centers around chess, which I got back into after a 30-year hiatus due to my son). Last time I played a hand was in a casino and that must have been around 9 years ago.

Today relatives came to visit; various aged ancestors and antecedents, siblings, and also those particularly challenging and ravening beasts commonly known as nieces. We adults guzzled bottles of decent Champagne and Blanquette de Limoux. Nieces drank coke floats. Presents were exchanged. After everyone had left I walked a little unsteadily (and probably emitting enough alcohol fumes to be detected by satellite imaging) to a very fine local Kurdish booze shop, came home and happily filled my fridge with Polski beer. A little later I started drinking the now chilled delicacies. Then I won at poker. Twice. O frabjous day!
