I bought a pair of the silver shields from rb on HF, and he does seem to know a lot, but the "I have come from on high to impart my knowledge to you" stance he took was of course going to rub people here the wrong way. It's about reading the room.

Also I don't see a "trash everything digital and go vinyl" trend here. I see a trash USB and also you should give vinyl a try attitude, but even then with the caveats that vinyl will cost a lot and getting rid of USB can also be costly (unless you want to go the Raspberry Pi route).

There are two huge threads dedicated to low cost, high quality audio through low power devices like the Raspberry Pi. Those threads have been ongoing for months. Some people have chosen the Lynx route, but others are going a different way. I'm really not seeing the evidence of groupthink that some people accuse SBAF of, other than a lot of people are independently coming to the conclusion that removing USB from your chain results in sonic gains.

With 4 decades of knowledge, I say rb is like Yoda, but more bad ass because he knows both the light and the dark side.

BTW, I fall into the category of Bantha Poodoo folk that don't give two shitznits about USB issues. But may consider a TT later to get all those vinyl jewls in my handses.

EDIT: errr.... Actually I do give about one shitznits about USB issues. But the $ would have to be more in agreement with the gains factor for me to consider it, maybe later.

Well that makes the ostentation all the more effed up - if he was straightforward, maybe people would pay him more serious attention.

Professionally, I have always made it a goal to surround myself with people smarter than I am. I've learned a whole lot this way, and have become more successful at a faster rate than I would have otherwise. However, one of the most brilliant individuals I've ever encountered was an absolute asshat and nearly impossible to work with. Quite a dilemma at first, but in short order I simply avoided him at all costs despite losing out on the potential enrichment. Sometimes, one's approach is everything. That's just plain and simple. And when it comes to a hobby, the tolerance level is going to be much lower, right? So, yeah, bursting on the scene in a new venue with this kind of bravado, waiving your dick, price tags, and decades of experience isn't likely to be a successful approach no matter what else you bring - especially in *this* venue. And just look, after half a dozen posts and not being anointed the Digital Messiah, he's already skipped town. Narcissistic Personality Disorder anyone? No time for it, personally.

As an aside, does anyone else think the recent flotilla of HF buffoonery isn't an accident?
