Pardon our denseness. We are not where your are at yet. You are like a level 164 audiophile with +13 vorpal or stormbringer gear. Your Gauravidian levels are way off the charts at 3 billion per liter. The highest of us are at most level 58, with +3 enchanted crap. Maybe 100,000 Gauravidians per liter on a good day.

I think it's interesting to hear people's personal audio journeys, but it's kind of misleading to preach for others to completely avoid either digital or analog. I believe that there are albums that just sound better on an analog setup, regardless of the noise floor. Some of these remained in the analog domain from start to finish, or just have better mastering that never made it to their digitized companions.

Anyway, I will say that members who are able to dispense thoughtful advice without coming across as condescending are worth their weight in gold. It also helps to build a reputation through participating in discussions and offering a thoughtful opinion, whatever our level of experience may be.

Wow, vorpal by itself is a +5 enhancement quality. That brings total enhancement levels to +18, and as we all know the hard cap for mortal equipment is +10, which means we are now playing at EPIC levels.

(3.5e here, you 4th and 5th ed guys can go suck a cockatrice egg)

@Armaegis, Googleli's audiophile build guide showed us you could get +4 enhancement (on top of the cap) for every hooker mage you summon. Proof: here, and here

@cizx Really now? You want to go back to inconsistent positive or negative calculations and racially restricted multiclassing options? No thanks. Although admittedly I have waaaay more splatbooks for 2e than 3. Or maybe I'm partial to 3.5 and you might find my name in a book somewhere. Maybe.

You guys will not believe this, but I finally figured out how to get a setup that completely obliterates both vinyl or digital, and will no doubt put @Rb2016's four decades of experience to shame!

    Oh wow, nostalgia!

Loved Gilbert and Sullivan as a kid. Was listening to them when everybody else was listening to the Beatles. There, anyone who might think I'm weird can be sure now! (I made up for it in the early 70s, with a blindfold (I saw the colours inside) dive into The Grateful Dead and other mind-altering music and... err... other things. But hey, I got weirder.

Oh yeah! Music direct to the ears. Nothing beats it --- assuming half-decent acoustics.

Always entertaining to see '40 years of experience' in audio snobbery lead to boasting about electronic components, circuit layouts, yadda yadda with zero engineering or circuit design knowledge, as well as being expert troubleshooters in exactly what is wrong with their current systems. Hmm, this $200,000 rig is sounds a bit lean and is a tad bright for my taste... Oh, THAT's why, it's my $900 USB cable being a bottleneck. I need to upgrade it to something that costs at minimum 10% of the cost of the rest of my setup. It couldn't possibly be my transducer, amplifier or source component.

Do you think I can get a Doctorate in EE if I study enough 6moons articles and head-fi posts?

Can I have one because my music listening goes back to 78RPM Shellac on the Radiogram?

Can I have one in mechanical engineering, because I experimented with listening to music by bone conduction, at a very young-and-foolish age, using my parents' ancient wind-up gramophone and a pin held between my teeth?

    :bird:

(If I had ever had serious money, I might well have followed the kind of path that Rb2016 followed. I expect I'd have enjoyed it. As it is, my entire hifi has never been worth much more than one Yggdrasil, but I enjoyed that too)

I do believe that he came off a bit pretentious here. He didn't really know the crowd and posted his credentials. However, if it hasn't been said yet, I must say that I am thankful for him really trailblazing the audio over Ip stuff and being the one to delve deep into it and provide resources and understanding for it to the enthusiast.

I can't say he was the first one to start using the Rednet for headphone rigs, but he definitely was the one to stir it up into as big of a thing as it is now. Something even some of us here have been able to benefit from hearing, thus validating his findings.

So pros and cons and all. I think he is a valuable resource.... again just pretentious for posting here right away like that.

@Torq is a good example of having a lot of experience with stuff but easing your way into a community to gain their respect. This is the exact opposite.

    However,

I do encourage people to be graceful if he decides to come back because people like that, DIYers, and super serious audiophiles, even when incorrect about somethings, all contribute to the amount of valuable resources out there. IMO the more substance the better. He atleast does have a high signal to noise ratio overall.

He has some of the more valuable substance there.

This is all coming from someone who had a rough start themselves here and didn't really get to know the community before spouting my beliefs (some useful, just out of season and not tastefully communicated).

I see grandiosity like that, and I have to wonder if any or how much of it is true.
In contrast, I was browsing his doc on HD650S and a post on Changstar and I'm thinking, " Solderdude, holy shit, what an intellect!"

    It comes across a bit..

"Here are my 'credentials'; I bought a load of expensive stuff and If you play your cards right, I will share my secrets so that you too can do the same! Now, adopt the position!"

Actually, it also reminds me of why I didn't back Star Citizen, there was a lot of that brash alpha-malery there- except in that case, it was about how much they'd spent on imaginary Internet Spaceships without really understanding them, either.

    It's just a bit tiring.

    You guys are dorks.

Seriously, rb201x threads are gems buried in the head-fi crap. Thanks to him people got to discover (and enjoy) great digital devices in the likes of the Singxer F1, Rednet or Mutec USB.

So much so that the "OMG TRASH EVERYTHING DIGITAL AND GO VINAL!" preach from the higher ups here seems to have taken a different turn recently, where digital is back on topic ("OMG THAT LYNX CARD* IS THE NEXT BEST THING"). All this is thanks, in large part, to Rb201x.
(*) That's been around for (digital) ages
