Schiit Ragnarok - aka raggy

Rag 1.5 remains my favorite amp I’ve ever owned. It’s also a very good speaker amp, I feel like that aspect is especially underrated.

I see the used ones pop up and am always tempted to reclaim one.

 

I use it to power my JBL monitors and they are the best they've ever sounded and its not even close. It actually makes me want to get a pair of proper passive speakers. I live in an apartment and have a roommate so speakers just aren't a priority atm.

 

If I recall correctly the balanced headphone output is functionally the same as the speaker outs, which is remarkable as most power amps with a headphone jack don’t give you near full power and usually have a bunch of stuff in the signal path on the headphone side.

The thing that consistently blew me away with the Rag was the soundstage. It sounded so deep. I always felt like the sound would trail off to a vanishing point in the distance versus simply stopping. It has a holographic quality usually reserved for tubes.

I think when I have more disposable income I might just get a 1.5 again.
