Absolutely agree. The Morningstar Farms chipotle bean burgers are so damn good. The Costco sized packs aren't nearly big enough.

 

The Gluten-free thing is so ridiculous it is beyond funny. A tiny number of people cannot eat glutens, so gluten-free is a marketing plus to aim at the rest of us?

I haven't tried any of the recent looks-and-tastes-like-meat stuff, but if I got into it, I'd be eating it because I liked it for what it was. I'm a meat eater; I love vegetarian food too. I don't need either to pretend that it is the other.

20/30 years ago, the meat-substitute stuff was rubbish; awful. There was just one thing I used to buy regularly, not because it was not-meat, but because it happened to be nice.

Something to note, I’m not gluten intolerant but I do get allergy attacks depending on how much I eat (face becomes full of snot and tears, same thing happens with animals, pollens, etc). So I try to be gluten free as often as I can stand to alleviate my allergies. That said, I still agree with you and think it’s trendy BS more than anything.

 

Good point. However small the number is, those who are gluten intolerant do need something on the label.

Here's one for @Lyander, touching on identity and looks...

There's a man and a woman sitting opposite each other on a train. The woman is reading a book, but looks at the man from time time and, eventually, she leans towards him and asks, "Excuse me. Are you Jewish?"

He says, "No, I'm not." She returns to her book, but keeps glancing at the guy.

After some time, she asks again, "Are you Jewish?" and he replies that he is not.

After quite a while, she says to him, "Are you sure you're not Jewish?"

"Oh, ok, ok.... Yes, I am Jewish."

"That's funny: you don't look Jewish."


(The joke, apparently, is Jewish: I got it from a book on Jewish humour.)

 

Overheard from the neighbour's kids again:

kid1: you're using up all the water!
kid2: no I'm not!
kid1: it's my turn!
kid2: ok I'm gonna jump
*really weird squishing noise and laughter*
kid2: I think it needs to be tighter
kid1: I don't have any more socks...

At this point I peek over the fence. The kids have tucked their pants into their socks (actually looks like their dad's socks) and are filling up their pants with the garden hose. This doesn't work terribly well, but eventually it gets full enough and they proceed to jump around splashing on their watery butts.
