The Star Trek Thread

?

I am....

  1. cautiously optimistic about the new series.

  2. going into it knowing what I'm getting, and I'm going to enjoy it for what it is

  3. already numb to the anal rape via JJ Abrams lens flare. But I will watch because it hurts so good.

  4. avoiding this new series like the plague.

Amazing we never had this thread on Chang. Interesting news we just got:

    http://www.startrek.com/article/new-star-trek-series-premieres-january-2017

    Poll included.

In this thread there will be:

    • Circular fanboy arguments about which series is best
    • Comparisons of forum members to various characters in lore
    • Thorough analysis of the composition and dimensions of Worf's sexual endowment
    • Projections of an alternate timeline where Merv is the founder of Head-Fi and rules as evil Headphone-Genghis-Khan
    Make it so.

I'll take a peek, but not excited about it for the following reasons:
    • CBS's third rate streaming service at $6 per month. Seriously? Content pirates are going to have a field day. (For the record, I disapprove of piracy.) It's all about money. The show will need it to stay alive.
    • Alex Kurtzman. From that team that brought you Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Mission Imbecile 3, Cowboys vs. Aliens, the Under-Amazing Spiderman Part Deux the Garfield Edition, and ST: The Englishman as Khan (this is disappointing and ironic considering the British pillaged countries were a lot of people might have actually been named Khan.)
Prediction: One season run, or more likely, cancellation before the pilot is even made.

I'd rather see a space-porno starring Jonathan Frakes reprising his role as Starfleet officer - a sex-addict Captain of a new Starship exploring strange new worlds and babes. HBO or Cinemax please for adult content.

Will there be a SBAF inspired episode titled "The Trouble With Treble"??

I was thinking more along the lines of Dagger of the Mind.

On the Tantalus Penal Colony, the very obviously HD800 looking ring radiator based neural neutralizer:

    Lets get this over with:

    DS9 > TNG > ToS > Voy = ENT

    6 > 2 > 4 > 3 > 8 > 11 > 1 > 12 > 9 > 10 > 7 > 5

    Picard > Kirk > Sisko > Janeway > Archer

Is DS9 really that good?! I've started but always gotten annoyed.

Not really. DS9 got better toward the end, but it always felt like they were trying to keep up with B5. DS9 tried hard to be gritty, but it really couldn't be because it was ST. None of that space alien Bajor spiritual crap or changeling linked in the sea of consciousness stuff worked or seemed convincing. What DS9 really needed was nudity and tons of it with Quark operating a harem on the space station and Rom's girlfriend rubbering her juices all over his ear lobes or something like that. Voyager got interesting in the last few episodes of the last season with the freakshow time travel what-if shit and old Janeway finally figuring out that being all womanly and considerate and crap didn't work out so well for everyone, so she decides to go back in time to genocide the Borg. TNG (season 4 onward) and TOS were the most solid, but different in their own way.

People love DS9, but I thought it was not that impressive. It was the first Trek to do an over-arching plot, the problem is, half the characters were just tedious. I hated the Ferengi and the religion they kept dancing about. I liked the Cardasians, the idea of an over-arching plot and such, but it was just wasn't executed great. It especially looks sad compared to current standards, but even at the time I wasn't impressed.

TNG > TOS > DS9 > sad attempts at making a tv show

    2 > 4 > 6 > 8 > 11 > 3 > 12 > 9 > the rest > Every bad sci-fi ever made > 5

    Picard > Kirk > Janeway > Archer's Dog > Archer.

I just hope there's not another episode with an uninteresting plot involving a holodeck.

    I'm excited. It's Star Trek!

Here's another poll type question - would you rather replicate yourself an Ourprecious 2 (for keeps), or have 10 visits to a holosuite to re-experience albums you love?

Pretty much agree with Maxvla. DS9 is the best. I could never stand episodic crap where each episode might as well exist in a separate universe.

For anyone who thinks DS9 gets off slow....don't know how you could get through TNG's first two seasons

    6 > 2 > 3 > 10 > 9 > 8 > 11 > 12 > rest

    DS9 Spoiler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:

I was actually hoping that the final episode series would be a lot more grim. I was hoping Worf would pull an OJ (double homicide) on Ezri and Bashir and then go into self-appointed exile. The end of the Dominion war was a wholly unsatisfying. And let's not get started and half-baked Pah Wraith sub-plot. I think Kira should have died in uncertain circumstances (killed by Section 31?) which would turn Odo to the dark side a la Vader. Overall I would have liked more more Greek tragedy and less happy-smiley solution to things. It would have given the series a more cathartic ending. Maybe they were holding out for a full-length film conclusion.

Well, I guess I should at least post something in here given my username and avatar.

    Also:

    DS9>VOY>TNG>TOS (never watched ENT).

    SPOILERS:

The first season of DS9 is pretty bad. Lots of filler and BS episodes. But by the time the dominion war gets going it's INTENSE. I f'ing cried when Odo and Quark said their goodbyes. And VOY is MUCH better than it gets credit for.

I was a huge TNG fan, but never finished watching DS9. But the parts of the Dominion war I saw were good.

    TNG> all else

    Riker = GOAT
Worf = best appreciated when you are the only one in the room
