Uhh.......so does that mean you would even choose the omni over the TH-X00? Sound quality wise?

My son (age 24) and I listened to the THx00 when I picked up my PMx2 from Alex (I won the upgrade at RMAF - woohoo!). Neither of us was impressed with the THx00. Bass was overblown and lower mid muddy. My son prefers Audeze and I prefer my Ether c. I've tried the T5p (gen 1) and the clamp was so loose, there was no bass. T5p may sound good for those with a large head. I have DT770's and they are certainly fun, but not in the same class as the TH900. BTW, I thought the TH900 was considered very poor at isolation.

I traded the T5p for a TH600 which will be here tomorrow, so I look forward to that. I also got a good deal from Sonic on the DT1770, so I'm going to try those too.

What amp did you try it out of? The th-x00 sounds good out of the Torpedo III and BW, but was terrible out of the Gustard H10 and Valhalla 2.

Well, we were sitting in Alex's SUV listening to headphones for 2 hours; comparing the PMx2 with others, one of which was the THx00. Alex had a small USB DAC/AMP, I think a Geek Out. Probably not the best.

Well shit. Guess the TH-X00 is a no go for my H10. Care to elaborate?

With the Gustard the th-x00's bass is slow and mids are really uneven and flat at times. It sounds like there are big dips in the mid range. With the vallhala 2 the x00's sound thin and harsh in the highs. I was going to sell my th-x00s until I heard them through the torpedo 3 and rag.

I liked the X00 on my NFB28 a lot more than with my HA-2 and O2. I was also greatly surprised at how much it changed from amp to amp.

Hey guys, has anyone seen, possibly even checked out, the new closed design series from AKG (N90Q, N90LE) ? These go for 1.5k eur so I'm assuming they're damn high-end.

I'm not a fan of pleather anyway, but they look pretty smooth (reminds me of MDR-1A). I might have missed the point though, is it implying it's a bad choice :D ?

Bah, I read about all these brainwavz variations pleasing everyone ! Too bad they're not so common on the EU market (a lot of those good custom ear cuffs are from the UK and they cost a **** ton). But anyway, I must say that design looks top-notch, truly futuristic! It's like what you imagine costing over 1k should look like.

is there demand for a portable, noise isolating gold headphone that costs that much?

Something I didn't take into account with my X00 review. I realized amps with rough "solid state" sound would make the treble peak worse. Amps which were overly smooth or laid back would make X00 boring or slow. X00 is a headphone that needs an amp that is good across the board without any serious weaknesses.

Yeah good point, I doubt there are many people willing to spend that much for closed cans anyway. From what I've seen it's a really controversial topic whether they can get even close to a well-balanced sound anyway, compared to open designs. Looks like it's more of a portable necessity in this case.

I can confirm that x00 and project polaris is a great pairing.

That was certainly true back in the day. Everyone says R10 sounds very good; I've never heard it. Closed phones are much better nowadays than even four years ago when some people were impressed with Dx000. I think we've reached the point where the tonality isn't so divergent, though there are still trade offs.
