I had to do event coverage for a McCormick-sponsored concert here and the soundguys seemed to want to get the people the next city over dancing. Headliner was a popular local rock band, I did NOT have hearing protection on hand nor clearance to leave. Partially my fault, but damn the sound people specifically (haha).
I have been very diligent about hearing protection - usually with Hearos with 33db reduction - since I played and saw a lot of LOUD heavy music. But didn't always when I was just a teenager at some loud club show. Hoping I get lucky.
@Grahad2 Thank you for the link. I have had mild tinnitus for 6 years now due to a freak accident and can still hear up to 17khz just like @Lyer25 so was wondering what's up with that. The more you know! Sucks that I'll have to live with this soft ringing for the rest of my miserable life, though. Take care of your perfectly good ears, people!
I shelled out for some okay-ish IEMs pretty much just for hearing protection purposes (I don't really like listening to music through IEMs, for whatever reason). Guess I might as well invest in proper plugs though.
@Cspirou Heck YES they should. Or at least make sure not to crank volumes up to obscene levels just because they can.
My hearing aid automatically attenuates whenever ambient noise is too loud - useful as hell until someone tries to talk to you in a server room and you can't hear them at all.
