Ya, just decided to go for them. The z5 did interest me but the overall claim that it was in basshead territory pushed me away, that and I had multiple sales go south on headfi. Should have them Saturday. Still very interested in campfire jupiter/andromeda, but those will have to wait.

Well, this is definitely the best bass I've heard in an in ear, (sony ex1000) which doesn't say a whole lot I suppose. But man, so well controlled goes nice and low, nice punch, just sounds natural. The best part about it, is it really does not overpower anything, but somehow makes it known it's there. Luckily no issue with fit here, ive never been overly picky, my ears don't care I guess. I've had them in for 2 hours straight this session, still comfortable to me. It is an odd shape, but somehow works.if the z5 is bassier than this, with less treble, than I definitely wouldn't have enjoyed it. Thanks to Shane for this writeup recommendations and forum discussion.

just got this year's "Headphone Guide" from Japan , andro and xelento tied for "iem of the year" by a panel of reviewers. the runner up is AK/JHA Michelle, with the entry calling it one of the best iem for Rock/EDM/R&B.

Anyone had any headtime with Michelle?

It's been a while so don't put too much faith in my words. The Michelle sounded a little dark and congested in staging, though it was pretty decent in tonality. But as with a lot of JH products, it's a bit of a hard sell at 500USD retail.

I'd have thought you'd put the event timings rather than the opening hours though. Will try to make it down if I'm still alive after TI7 viewing...

@shotgunshane you said that the re-262 has one of the best mids for an iem, I currently have one on sale for $70 usd, should I get it? Thanks.

I concur with @shotgunshane on the RE-262 mids, they're really exceptional. However, HiFiMAN cable quality is rather pathetic, so I'd be extra careful about buying their IEMs used.

As james444 mentions, I would be concerned about the cable and qc in general. I would say only take the chance of $70 isn't that much to you. Might want to check if BTG Audio could recable them, should something happen, before deciding to purchase.

Not really an iem guy but I'm a mids lover so I dont mind paying for a high quality iem. How much would you pay for a used fitear f111 or tg334? Thanks!

FitEar resale value tends to stay close to retail pricing due to their limited availability. If you could find the F111 around 400 and the TG334 under 1k, those would seem like pretty good deals.

@shotgunshane how would you compare Zeus R with PP8? Thanks in advance!

I no longer have the Zeus R, so I've only memory of it to compare. Also note this will be from memeory of the non-Adel version.

I remember the R being brighter and a little leaner than the PP8, with perhaps a slight upper mid elevation in comparison. The R will sound wider and airier in head stage. To my ears the PP8 sounds both more neutral and more natural, with R sounding a little more analytical. In most technicalities they are in par but I have to give the nod to the PP8 in micro-dynamics.

    brief unscheduled in store auditions:-

Unique Melody ME.1 > planar iem done right! open like a cleaner, less dark LCD 2.2, afaik, no weirdness. they are big but smaller not fugly like the isines. One thing it got very right is its sense of scale. the suspension of disbelief is high, it really sounds "big"* if it slams harder with moar subbass, i'd consider it a spiritual descendant of the sony ex800st. really like it.

would get it in a heartbeat if i want an open iem. under 700$ usd, comes with a seriously well built 8 braid cable. what's not to like. Not usually a fan of chi-fi i am impressed by the tuning skillz of unique melody, looking forward to trying more of their line up.

isine 20 > wtf... seriously audeze ??? finicky as f**k, the sound was not worth the fugliness and pita.

Dita Dream > immediately following the UM, it's more overtly detailed, bright tho not piercing, mids are thinner than i would prefer, but bass is very tight yet weighty. overall, suppose it's a grower not a shower, looks great tho, beautiful cable and fits well.

*they sound big... bigger than ethers for example.

The 64 Audio tour package from the other site has arrived. Quick/instant thoughts:

U18 is not for me. It reminds me of a Weston's/Earsonics type sound but without the veil. It's pretty bassy and on the thicker side, with fairly polite treble. Seems like they are definitely going for the stage musician with these.

The Tia Forte is instantly enjoyable. Kind of a W signature, with plenty of sub bass fun, vocals that don't get lost behind instruments and fairly easy going treble but certainly more sparkle and presence than the U18. Makes me think of a more fun approach to a UM Martian type signature.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried it too briefly (Fourté) to comment. How do you feel about price?

Products in this price range are meant to be for exclusivity and low volume statement products. Unfortunately it seems too many consumers think they need to go into debt to have the latest and greatest. I know I could never afford the Tia Forte, no matter how much I like it.
