Out of all the pretty emotional responses to the @Auditor post, getting a response to this would actually be helpful.

There really should be a pinned post about the psychology of these type of attention whores somewhere on the site.

You know, not only that, but @mscott58 's review showed that a Eitr could probably fix quite a bit of what we found. Bob stated he has measurements which show USB might be the culprit? A ray of hope for the product, depending on personal preferences.

But then close personal friends of @alvin1118 come along and decides to shit all over the site with irrational comments, clear national prejudice and racial hate, weak generalizations, and then lingers long enough to prove themselves to be an inflammatory hemorrhoidal troll... it makes me reconsider giving the company another shot.

Anyway, I'm done w/ it. We can pile on, but it's all noise at this point. Looking forward to seeing measurements so I know why I heard what I heard.

    *Edited for accuracy.

if you'd have opened your eyes and looked around the site, you'd know that @Hands mostly uses dacs OTHER than schiit for his listening. so the entire premise of your post is false. oh well. moving this turd bucket to a different thread, this one is for impressions.

if you'd like to add your impressions and comparisons to other dacs you've heard, please do so here:

@Auditor As you say yourself you are friends with the leader of Vinshire. You're harming your friend with your outburst. Due to your closeness it reflects on the brands image, in this case showing a superiority complex which just doesn't work in this industry. Maybe if you were a bit more fun with it, but I think you're worried about poor reviews hurting your friend's sales.

As a former business owner friends who take too much interest & act like the CEO is god are bad for business. This was a major factor in my company going under. If you're worried please call your friend on the phone and see if your help is wanted. Coordinate.

On the shilling question I'm a rando outsider. My tastes differ from most of the community. Doesn't matter much, most of the reviewers here are easy to understand. I get what they like. I can read a review where they dislike a product and know I'd probably enjoy it. The inverse too.

Best just to appreciate anyone who puts in more effort than the generic 'excellent sound' or 'meh' and go from there. Growing up my father's family always went to the movies the reviewers recommended against. Returns and unhappy buyers are worrying, negative reviews.. all news is good news

I haven't heard that DAC so I have no comment on how it compares to Schiit's offerings. But I did make the mistake of reading that review that you linked, you sir are doing no favors for your friend at Denafrips!

First and last post is what he said. He let us down badly.

Doesn't anybody else here smell pure troll? Doesn't seem clever enough to be a real shill.

    No, No. No!

Damnit... you'll be walking a mile in them when I'm not looking.

I'd say the OP is quite a masterful troll, actually.

Yeah, my grandpa used to say this to me whenever I said I hated something when I was a babby. I didn't understand what he meant by SBAF, but his words made me grow into a better person than I'd be without SBAF as a horrid counterexample. Bless his soul

Madre de mierda, could you be any more condescending and racist?

Got a lot to say, but here's the SparkNotes version:
    - You're not helping the brand's image with this. Quite the opposite, in fact.
    - ^^ What people said about @Hands being one of the better reviewers around. Attacking someone's integrity like that is low, Porker.
    - When people call me out on my stupidity (which is fairly often, mind), I scrunch my face up like a good reprobate, then admit I screwed up with a winning grin on my face, then make an effort not to do the same. This is an opportunity for the manufacturer to improve their products, if it is as lackluster as impressions have lead me to believe. Considering integrity of reviewer, I am inclined to believe it is. Also, I'm Filipino, not American, just in case you get any ideas in your head. Never heard Schiit in my life, but shipping and customs are a pain in the dickhole.
    - I've got friends in Europe, arguably more real friends than I have locally. I'm going to be very mad at them for not telling me they were all musical prodigies. For shame.

I've been trying not to add noise since I'm aware I have a tendency towards that, but you're a proper asshole, aren't you, with all the stool you're spewing? Great, I'm dogpiling again. Thanks.

Throws stone, hides hand...retarded is not enough to describe you, you're not doing any favors to your friend, quite the contrary...I feel bad for Alvin, but you can suck a plastic dildo covered with tomato sauce and a Justin Bieber picture.
Oh, here is a native european rant for you, much more musical and closer to a real high fidelity insult: vete a un psicólogo, hijo de un camión cisterna de putas, descerebrado tu hermana está pidiéndote un tercer hijo.

    Son of a red tank?

Well, no, I don't speak a word of it, but if I heard that in one of those Clint Eastward films, I wouldn't expect the other guy in the scene to live long!

Why bother saying this, especially if you plan on regretting what you've said and latee replacing your post with a "." BTW, I've since restored your original post for all to see. You don't get the right to erase stupid things you've said without apologizing. You don't have to agree with what people here say sounds good or not, and I certainly do not doubt what you hear. But there's no need for all the other garbage in your post.

This is good advice. I was going to advise Alvin that in the future, if there is a future, that he solicit feedback privately from a few trusted individuals before letting it out loose. This what what my friend Craig at Eddie Current does. He listens himself. Lets in 2-3 other people. Then he brings stuff to a meet where 20-30 people get to give him feedback. Sometimes people just don't like something. Sometimes criticism is constructive. Many times he listens to other vendors gear. The final usually sounds very different from the initial prototype.

I am not sure if any of the Schiit fanboys heard the Pontus. Maybe @Torq, but @Torq has been on record as saying he thinks the DAVE and the Linn are better DACs. He also keeps a Holo around. And if @Torq heard the Pontus, he's been awfully quiet. Maybe he wrote something, but I don't read every line of every post of this forum.

@Hands is the one who publicly and explicitly posted that he didn't like it. He likes NOS R2R DACs. He appreciates what the Schiit DACs do, but I don't think he personally cares for the Schiit DACs.

So what does this have to do with Schiit? Absolutely NOTHING. What you've done is two things:
    1. Set up a straw man - invalidate @Hand's impressions by intentionally setting up a false argument that is easier to defeat.
    2. Utilize an ad hominem attack - invalidate @Hand's impressions by attacking SBAF rather than the position that @Hand's has taken.

Because most of SBAF is in English (there is one sub-forum in French), USA, Canada, UK, and Australia form the largest group where users visit from. What are the next most popular countries? Singapore, German, HK, France, Netherlands, and Italy. Almost twenty percent of the users are from these five countries.

I think you will find that the members here, regardless of where they come from, have played musical instruments or attend live musical events on a regular basis. I have a piano and a guitar in my house. I've played violin, piano, and bass; although my skills with the former two have severely declined. My uncle is Gordon Shi-Wen Chin, who composes a lot of atonal modern stuff. I heard one of his small ensemble compositiions with Cho-Liang Lin in a small Palo Alto church with ---fantastic-- acoustics. One of my kid's friends plays electric guitar. This guy a few house down the street plays drums. I plan on getting a bass again to jam with him. I used to travel with bands as a sound guy - you know the dude who does sound checks, plugs shit in, and gets to play with the knobs behind the mixing console. What does any of this have to do with my or anyone else's sonic acuity? Absolutely ZERO. Because everyone's mom, sister, grandma, used to be an opera singer.

I don't think you are objective. And you are a shitty friend.

To be fair, I actually do rather like the Schiit MB DACs, but my personal preferences make it so I don't have much of a reason to keep any of them around (at the moment - speaker rig down the road may vary).

And the Pontus has a NOS mode on it...but I don't care for it even still.
