When you put the headphone on your head and achieve a seal, one end is closed off, and then the hole in the middle act like the opening of a tube... or in this case, a bottle, which is... Helmholtz... yadda yadda...

    :punk:

Hint: a back-damping version of this would work as well, based on that principle. Though the calculations may have to be altered slightly to account for the slight difference in distance.

Ha so I am not the only one who thinks the HD 800's imaging is wonky and feels more like an AKG than a continuation of the HD 580/600/650 smaller but accurate sound stage.

I honestly wish Sennheiser would continue innovating making reasonably priced open dynamics like the HD 6X0 series instead of going after niche hobbyists and rich Arabs for whom headphones are cheaper than cars. Sennheiser actually said they voiced the HD 800 the way they did as "different countries prefer different sounds." Most people, audiophiles, musicians, and audio professionals who drop thousands on transducers are buying speakers. The HD 580 was a massive leap over almost everything that came before it (the very limited Orpheus and HP1000s non-withstanding) and was only $349 in the early 90s.

This seems like something I can model, 3d print and test easily. I entered some calculations for 6.5khz resonance (attached).

We'll have to fill you in one day. The guy has gone on quite a few insane (like totally insane) rants in the past. We have our spies and so does he.

If it's a closed resonator, then I bet it's not as simple as a solid cylinder as the pics suggest, but the driver facing side having the correctly calculated cavities for multiple resonators around a ring. If that's the case, it could still be easily 3d printed and replicated with great accuracy - although attachment to the driver would be tricky.

You mean like how he drops what he knew went in in the shoutbox and complained to bill on the phone about what used to go on on changstar for 2-3 hours? Or how he went off on how Marv dedicated all his life and time to ruining Jude's life? Jude definitely doesn't care about what goes on here.

LOL, maybe he follows you (and others) because he likes what they have to say. He's coming in from Newport Beach, not San Diego or Japan.

It sure looks like there's a ring of something added under the spokes of the nazi sun symbol in addition to the plug in the center. At least when I see it side-by-side with the HD 800

Funny you say that. It's more of an occult symbol, however there was one incorporated into the floor of a castle used by Himmler during WW2.

Well I think everyone not just Tyll wants to get their hands on this and compare (and I mean listen not pull it apart right away). The HD-800 is the holy grail for a lot of people. I am sure I will get to listen to this at CES 2016 (of course if they have it there).
