Yes because the USB input on the Modi Multibit is terrible. I was using optical because of the weirdness (glare and treble emphasis) happening in the treble with USB.
Thanks @Melvillian, but was a bit unclear since I was trying to fit my question into 140 chars without resorting to txt speak, haha. Meant to ask whether the Eitr outperforms the iFi Micro iDSD (which I already happen to have on hand and plan to keep) as a USB to SPDIF converter, and if yes, by how much.
I knew from the thread that USB on the Modi Multibit is... sub-optimal. Would demo Eitr, but Schiit is hard to get in the Philippines, so all I can do is ask and hope someone did a iDSD v. Eitr comparison :P
My apologies, I misunderstood the question. I haven’t had a chance to try the iDSD so I wouldn’t know. Both the Eitr and USB Gen 5 (on my Gungnir Multibit) are excellent though. My suggestion is if you don’t feel the need for the eitr, then maybe it’s not needed.
No worries, I was also at fault for the obtuse wording :)
Well the built-in iPurifier thingamabobble should be fine, but the nervosa makes me wonder if I'm not maximising the Modi Multibit. Ah well, time for that once I actually get one. Thanks!
How much was...? $430 for the Schiit plus however much it'll cost to get them cross-Pacific, haha.
Sold off a lot of gear recently for reasons, left with X00 EBs, iDSD silver, and an HP-V1 porta hybrid amp. Eventual upgrade to HD800 once I can manage, plus getting friend pricing on a LP G109A when said friend "upgrades" to CMA-600i.
(Really though, this means a lot, know you're busy. Thanks.)
