Could not make new pads fit on my HD800. Supposed to clip on, not clip on and then spring off again.
The internet pointed me to the solution, which he had posted
"Renovated" HD800s, with new pads and headband padding.
The original headband padding had rotted away entirely (with a little help from @Koth Ganesh's head). Now it is cosy again. Ear pads feel better too.
My integrated amp is playing up; my ifi amp is buzzing with electricity --- from which I infer that there may be a mains fault --- and my Geekout is Miss Laid.
My little ifi amp is fine now. My rather more valuable Cyrus integrated is not. Probably damn bad luck that I turned it on during some mains fault. Sob. We have a really good repair man in this city: just hoping it is not some propriety chip blown!
Anyway, the ifi makes the HD800 sound better, but hey, sometimes I want speakers. Sob.
I'm with you. I've only heard good speakers out of a proper vinyl rig a handful of times in my life so far but they thoroughly beat headphone audio, and those were store demos. Hope the repair man revives the integrated :)
My possibly-fried Cyrus integrated amplifier has been checked into the local hospital today. As the controls have gone crazy, and that's all digital, I really fear that a proprietary chip may have fried.
Anyway, it couldn't be in better hands than those of Sayeed of Chennai --- who sends his regards to @Koth Ganesh
