Perhaps possible to get 98 dB sensitivty with a real 28 Hz to 17 kHz range (flat) using affordable speakers. It would be a 200 or so litter box though with two 6" ports me thinks.
The GW-1258 is super cheap and seems to do OK with low frequencies. But it lacks xmax. The Eminence Kappalite 3015LF-4 maybe the one to get, but it's pretty pricey. We'll see.
I'll cook a few things up and start a thread. Just for interest and pass the time. I feel for home use a 12" GW-1258 will likely not run out of xmax (2 mm). But a true PA application will probably benefit from the 15" Kappalite with its 10 mm xmax. For high output sub-bass, it's not just cone diameter, but xmax as well.
Yup. Recommended volume for Kappalite w 38 Hz F3 is 180 liters. This is true 38 Hz crazy bass. A speaker that may have the power to do some structural damage. I mean 123 dB SPL at that frequency is pretty brutal.
I don't get compression drivers that well though. Some can do about 111 or moer SPL. But even 18" Pro subs rarely go about 101. You would need like 3 18" to match that, and that's not counting baffle step.
