Gotcha. I've edited my post to clarify.

It’s not the appearance, I’m pretty sure it’s the manufacturing date. Whitney is the one that let me know they aren’t the older version.

I'm running this as my daily driver and it's very good, there's a nice richness in the mids. Pairs extremely well with tube preamps.

Raal Requisite CA-1a b-stock sale: $1.5k for the headphones alone ("naked") or $1,875 with transformer box and cables: https://raalrequisite.com/product/c...5_off_selected_headphones&utm_term=2023-10-03

I owned the CA-1a for a while but decided to sell it as my SR1a scratched the same kind of audio experience itch. It's a great headphone; not quite as resolving as the SR1a and without the headstage but with much deeper and more robust bass, a slightly warmer sound signature, and the option to tune it with the different pads from a kind of studio neutral to a more mellow, warmer presentation. For less than $2k, the CA-1a competes with headphones that are twice as expensive.

JVC HA-FD01 IEMs are up Drop for $129 again, with ~immediate shipping:

    https://drop.com/buy/jvc-ha-fd01-iem

The mod that turns these into the FDX1 - on which the FDX1 was based, with input from people here - is described here. People who've heard both say that the bass ends up slightly different, the production X1 being slightly tighter and leaner (e.g. see @shotgunshane here).

The OG 01 came with OG Spiral Dot tips, which are stiffer than the X1's SD+ and the later ++ version (I prefer the OG myself) - but the current Drop listing says the included tips are SD+.

UK Friends: Acorn Audio has a sale on ZMFs: https://www.acornaudio.co.uk/shop/

1900 quid for an African Blackwood VO isn't so bad; the prices are now more in line with US ones.

Special hidden gem Planar Rogers HS-90a on sale for 98,000 yen (MSRP 165,000 yen) from http://www.rogers-japan.com/sb/specialsale_05.html
The owner of "Sound base" Tokyo store designed these planar headphones and runs that rogers-japan website. I believe he tried to create a headphone version of the Rogers ls3/5a speakers. Never heard of the Ls3/5a but the HS-90a does remind me of the P3esr. Not sure if he will ship it outside of japan but various chinese websites sell these as well. Definitely worth it even at MSRP.

This very easy to drive hidden gem planar is unknown to the head-fi world and walks over all Hifiman HE1000x versions for 1/6 the price. I walked into e-earphones store in Tokyo to sample the Yamaha YH5000se and left grossed by the super low value of those headphones. Then, on that same day by luck, walked into an audio store and the owner introduced me to the Rogers HS-90a planar headphones. The best timbre reproduction I've heard from a planar powered by his cheap looking generic mp3 player. Resolution is top notch and I would say at least LFF code LEX's resolution level.

Very high praise and the price looks fair for such praise. Loaner worthy??
