I really hate comments like yours because I can already see the new site circlejerk where everything on Head-Fi is awful and terrible and then I found SBAF where everything is awesome and full le free thinkers. I see this kind of stupid absolutism in gaming mice where someone stops buying Razer mice because they were recommended Zowie who market very differently. Now suddenly Razer is complete shit and Zowie is the best thing ever even though people who know a lot about gaming mice generally don't like Zowie for a variety of reasons and can praise Razer in some respects. Zowie is nowhere near perfect and Razer is not completely awful.

Head-Fi is not awful and there is plenty of great content there but it does have a very low SNR which is not surprising considering the traffic and not something that can be fixed by moderators. SBAF is in many respects the same as Head-Fi as both are built on unprovable subjectivity. Just differing hiveminds on what is good and what isn't but dare I say that if SBAF doesn't have a layer of arrogance on it's own opinions now then it certainly will gain it over time from the influx of members who discovered this cool underground audio site.

Then again this kind of stupidity is only furthered because you can't mention SBAF on Head-Fi. Jude doing a great job of building a counter-culture against Head-Fi as always. Banning the weed/alcohol just ends up making it look more attractive to teens.

Yeah.. tonight, I am listening only to tiny (audio) equipment.. using my Mojo hooked up to my Vali 2 for the joy of it. Sounds weirdly good, enjoying the sounds :)

Pre-Huddler Hype-Fi was still fun and more signal than noise. Thing was, Emperor Jude wanted a bigger empire and V-Bulletin was not good enough for a platform. That place changed in terrible ways.

Emperor Jude can have his empire. Some people left this empire and I can understand why.

@Dreyka: if this forum is just an alternative HF with a different hivemind that spews unprovable subjective crap, allow me to make life easier on you.

Too quick and sudden for dick mode. More Samurai decapitation. The rando interrupted my pizza at Joe's (in NYC). He didn't deserve the honor of dick mode.

Dreyka is kind of a known (awful) quantity over on Reddit. I'm glad to see him with the red stripe.

The excitement over the new CA IEMs is because they are dynamic drivers from a manufacturer which already established itself early on with great sounding IEMs at reasonable prices. I believe the holy grail among many IEM users is a dynamic driver IEM that can approach or meet certain technicalities of BA drivers. Maybe we are buying too much into the diamond / carbon driver tech; but those of us who have heard the diamond drivers in the two channel world know that there should be plenty of potential. As far as excitement, many of us went gaga over UERR upon its announcement, based on UERM, until we heard it. We expected an improved UERM, not an Audeze. We do get exited over a lot of stuff; but the difference is we can just as easily forget about something if it doesn't meet our expectations.

I doubt we will have to reboot the Matrix. There was actually nothing fundamentally wrong with Changstar other than with one person, who I was receiving increasingly frequent complaints about in Changstar's last few months. But sometimes it's easier to start fresh than to salvage.

As far as @Dreyka comments, IMO Head-Fi is different from SBAF in it's very nature.

I was not around at the time Headwize was around, but my understanding is that Head-Fi was sort of spawned from Headwize. The original Headwize culture did not jived well with sponsorships and making the site a business itself. As the site grew, it appears that it was no longer possible to sustain the bandwidth, and it seems it collapsed.

Head-Fi was probably a response to this. Fully supporting of sponsorships and business like. A site that would sustain itself, at the expense of the audio enthusiast sometimes, because the audio enthusiast is not necessarily the end focus of the site. It's business and site self-preservation.

As far as I can tell SBAF is not necessarily focused on business and self-preservation. It's perhaps a bit of a more balanced approach, where the enthusiast is at the center, not the money-making self-preservation and revenue generation of the site.

A second observation related to @Dreyka comments. I personally think of "subjective" evaluation, as part of observation. If something works but the model doesn't fit, one should re-evaluate the model.

We do so here from time to time. And we discuss some of these things at length. We value both measurements and impressions. But I feel we all agree that experience comes second to none. This comes down to observation. Not observation the pretty plots/numbers, or the down-right poems about gear, but the actual experience of music (through the gear and live).

Zaktly, a first class dynamic IEM from an outfit who clearly know how to build and tune IEMs is quite exciting. It's hard not to be really curious to see what they manage to come up with. I think it's more extreme nerd curiosity than anything; most people are fully prepared to pan something they hate, whoever made it.

Reading Dreyka's criticisms of SBAF is strange, because he actually posts a ton of links to SBAF content and measurements over on Reddit.

I thought he liked this place, given how often he mentions and links to SBAF over there.

Which makes his constant citing of our humble forum the pinnacle of hypocrisy. He only likes himself and his ill-formed opinions.

Well I can't say much for myself. Not long ago I lost my mind about my own stupid stuff. Best we can do is to try to minimize such occurrences. Or like my grandfather used to say: We are all stupid sometimes. The trick is to not be around when you are stupid.

Wow that escalated quickly. Not sure what is wrong with the world nowadays, it seems everyone gets triggered very easily over words and personal opinions. Can't we all be like Mr. Hugh Mugus? Keep on walking.

To be fair, Reddit/headphones do have a lot of helpful, knowledgable and reliable posters. So does Head-fi. The problem is the amount of time it takes to get genuinely valuable information from there.

Frankly in this Audio world, many of the topics and technology has been discussed elsewhere on the internet many years back and many topics in SBAF are simply rehashes of the same thing in a different perspective.

Maybe we can use this thread to sniff out useful threads/post in headfi/Reddit/elsewhere that is worth our time to read.

Currawong deleted my posts and threatened to delete my account when my mate and I pulled his wa234 apart and found lot's of shoddy stuff and reported it on head-fi... He did the same thing when I linked someone to the head-case thread where they pull apart a cavalli amp and find it is a cheap POS.

Funnily enough he didn't delete the posts when someone posted EC stuff they weren't happy with.

This was all about 2 years ago..

Yeah, there are quite a few knowledgeable r/headphones regulars that I'd love to see on SBAF.

It's a shame because that place could be a genuinely valuable audio community if the content moderation approach was a little stricter than it is now. There used to be lots of friendly people who had clear, substantive impressions to share there, but they've all been drowned out by the mass of repetitive, individual-focused posts that get protected in the name of beginner friendliness. It's too bad, because the place has markedly declined in quality as a result.
