The Peak is great, no faults whatsoever but it doesn't have the technicalities of proper SET/OTL amps nor the smoothness so it doesn't belong with the big boys. Massdrop and many <1K are low-fi IMO.
@earnmyturns, I'm saying the peak is mid-fi because I'm currently listening to it with the K1000 and it's a great experience, but earlier in the day I was using the Teton...and the difference between the two is not small to put it lightly. Using ECC32 btw.
I listen to a lot of live modern jazz, and one thing I can't fault the Peak for, relative to the live sound, is smoothness. If anything, live performances, even in the best venues acoustic-wise, sound somewhat rougher. But you are tempting me to find what I'm missing ;)
