I think it depends on what tubes you stick in there more than anything.

I've heard adding the speedball option is the route to go.

I have the speedball. It is an improvement. I really like the bottlehead crack overall, but it does seem a bit warm/lush and little rolled in the treble. Is that common?

Swapping for a HD600 could be a good way to liven up the upper mids/treble a bit without losing what you like about the combo.

I'm modding a crack too and will try caps and tubes to get it less warm and rolled. The Crack thread has some good tube recs!

Speedball BH crack is a smooth lush sounding amp that's low on texture and resolution
I consider amps like Lyr 2 warm. BHC is more like smoothed over texture sound yet not muddy

I would call it warm but not poo. Also upgrading the pot is worthwhile as are caps.

Speedball upgrade is mandatory
