Hardly any bass extension, VERY aggressive, in-your-face sound, no headstage to speak of, elevated treble on most models that make cymbal crashes pretty fatiguing. It was cool how textured voices and instruments were, but overall the DT880 (felt disc mod) was a better fit for me.

I liked the vintage RS1 for acoustic pieces and sparse arrangements, audiophile lounge music stuff? But when things get busy it's all kinda BLERGHFGH.

Definitely a provisional recommendation, I can at least stand by a reco to try the lower end stuff out first because everything except the PS500 has a pretty similar voicing. There's a reason they've a fanbase :))

The TTVJ Deluxe pads normalizes them quite a bit - but they remain fantastic for guitar rock.

The Grado HF2, get one if you have the cash. Smooth and fun sound. Great with acoustic music, especially Jazz.

Thanks everyone! I may give the SR80 a shot and see what I think before dropping too much money. Could be a fun modding project, if nothing else.
