Completely intolerable. I was really surprised given what I’d read. I’m using it with the ES100 and had to set it to -9.5db at 4k (4k is a fixed EQ option but it was close enough). If not for that I would have had to sell them on. Also check the nozzles, the colours on mine were swapped. Other than that they’re really great.

Looks like they're swapped on mine too. Green's better, but I can still tell there's a push here beyond the level of the rest of the FR. I wish I could turn it up to bring out more extension and tactility on either end, but that area totally chokes my listening level. Kind of a bummer! My TH900s have a dip in the same area about as big as the bump on the FDX1 in the opposite direction, I like that a lot better.

It doesn't bug me at all. Then again, I plug them into t00b amps.

I had felt something was off in the mids (it "honks"?) that I had to take them off after a while until I tried EQ'ing 3k~4k region down 2-4db as recommended by someone on here. Been working well so far. Not sure how much of it was because of ZX300 which sounds pretty glare-y in itself, though.

@YMO I'm driving the FDX1 with the EC Super 7. Surprised to hear a totally black background. Every other aspect of the performance is great.

I'll never be an IEM budda, but I'm not finding any area of the sound to be forced on my end. Or maybe I'm not sensitive to 3-4K?

At first I thought it was a timbre issue, possibly due to the metal enclosure. It was eased a little out of the NBM, but it was still there. But once I looked up newer measurements I could see my EQ brought it to within 1.5db of my own rough IEM target where the hump is at 2khz instead of 3.5khz and much lower.

My take on these is that though there's a bit of a 4k peak (which is exaggerated by the most-stuffed filters cf the others), most of the effect is because of their fast transients in a part of the range where we're sensitive. Many well-regarded BAs (fast transients) have a dip in the FR in this area (eg Andromeda, various UEs).

I actually like the 4k push, but maybe because I'm a weeb and a sucker for HD6x0-esque signature

What Biodegraded said. Plus FDX1 peaks at 4K instead of 2 to 3k like most In-Ears. 4K is really transition to lower treble. At med to lower volume it’s fine but I can see it being a problem at louder volumes. Put a piece of micropore tape over nozzle, covering 60% or so of opening.
