Don't. I'm not going to. I figure 120fps on the games I play with my existing rig with Gsync is good enough.

Unless Cyberpunk runs like crap on the 2080ti, in which case... Maybe. (But probably not.)

Even my 1060 OCed runs 1080p perfectly at around 80-100fps. For example running EFT and Insurgency at 80 to 120 fps. Well Insurgency runs better, smaller maps different engine.

And I get a beautiful picture in most of these although I don't have time for this stuff usually.

There were leaks about a 20GB 3080 along side all the other leaks that turned out to be true. Supposedly held back as a counter to what AMD is releasing.

I'm going to see what AMD releases, but as of right now I'm definitely not getting a 3090. Too ridiculous of a price point.

The early independent tests I see have a 65-80% uplift from 2080ti to 3080, higher in RT. In any case, 20gb version is less than a month out, that's the one worth getting.

It’s all a waste of money until there are games that can fundamentally make use of them. Which won’t happen until multi-platform development cuts the PS4/XBO loose.

The most significant news is that they feature RTX IO. Direct low latency low CPU overhead SSD data decompression. You can have all gigaflops and cpu cores you want but without that you’ll be boned for next-gen stuff.

@BenjaminBore it all depends on your res and refresh requirement. Want to do 4k 120hz? Get a 3090 probably...

Sure, I was just generalising. There’s always a case for more power to VR applications as well.

I could use some more oomph for my 4k screen and tv. Using a Radeon VII because linux, but if Nvidia is so much better i might go green and see if i can make it wok under linux without too much of a headache.

Nvidia has good linux drivers, they're just proprietary which linux peeps don't like, I run linux most of the time as well

I've used nvidia as well under linux. Things i didn't like was power management not working properly, the card a gtx980 did not clock down properly and ran full blast doing jack shit because i didn't like screen tearing. Also nowadays i run Fedora and that has a rapid update cycle for the kernel which is with nvidia not ideal. I don't care if it's a binary blob.
