^to be clear, my right ear has much more substantial hearing damage than my left. My left ear is much more "even" in hearing; my right ear has huge dips in the mids, making everything in the right ear basically only treble and bass.

Hang in there, we have medicines like these on the horizon: https://www.regainyourhearing.eu/ But I do have some hearing damage as well and it doesn't mean you couldn't enjoy music or even analyse how well audio devices perform subjectively.

Honestly man, good music is good music and you basically almost never get decent "balance" between most casual speaker setups anyway and that never stops things from being fun. Reactive sinuses often have left ear treble dead at times and that never stops me from enjoying things.

Did DAC/amp combo units improve when I wasn't looking? First Soekris 2541 wasn't bad, and now iFi Neo iDSD is not bad.

Those who expect the HD8XX to be some magic answer to the HD800's issues will be sorely disappointed. That being said, not bad.

HD8XX > HD800SDR. Lose less, gain more. But we're talking 3%. At best. And, assuming EQ is in play.

That's good. When people are asking which HD800 to buy the HD8XX simplifies things since they don't need to acquire an OOP HD800 and SD mod.

@roshambo123 hard for me to say really because I frankly [still] have not heard a HD800 I truly liked that much. I think if I had to pick one I'd pick the HD8XX over the SDR but that's also personal preference.

@Merrick Very easy to reterminate to balanced because the stock cable is like the HD650 cable, both channels remain separate cables that are glued together.

Haha yeah, I rode Son of Beat once. The ride was so rough that my restraint got locked down on me way too hard during the ride and pretty much crushed me. I had a headache the rest of the day and was grateful that I was still able to have children in my later years. It was very much in doubt in the aftermath of that ride.

I always seem to enjoy more at the end of the day. I'm sure there's good science around this, but for me it's a combination of work getting out of my head, quieter family environment, the house fans not running so hard, and usually a decent cocktail.
