That being said, I find this really hard to recommend simply because it's so expensive. It's so far in the realms of diminishing returns that my advice is to spend your money on other stuff unless you're a madman like I am.

Been seeing some for non-insane prices lately, at least single ended. $3800-ish. Must... resist...

@internethandle That's half the price they go for in Aus and still more than I paid for my car. I don't think I'll ever live the orfas life.

@Sqveak IMO the ORFAS life is insane and I had no idea I was living it until a sudden realization recently. Seriously, my advice is don't live that life.

I'm saying this even as someone who got an offer for a new Wavedream Edition XLR that was too tempting for me.

@ChaChaRealSmooth My aspirations start and end at "budget TOTL" or a Starlett and a Yggdrasil or equivalent. There are other things I want out of life, much more tangible things. Like a home of my own, if ever I can afford it.

For people with great speakers (not necessarily ORFAS expensive) a great dac is a must. I am willing to bet Wavedream is worth it over the usual 'mortal top range'.

@Sqveak where did you buy your car? A 10 year old Corolla goes for 3x that in Sydney these days.

@ChaChaRealSmooth I know you're a fan of the Yggdrasil GS. How do the GS and Wavedream compare?

Wavedream: reminds me of a DAC version of a direct drive Garrard table. Pounding, relentless, and dynamic, but liquid and flowing in timbre. Not as incisive as Schiit.

Yggdrasil GS: more "raw" and a bit more incisive, but doesn't slam as much nor have as much nuance as Wavedream

And in terms of technical performance, it's a no-contest; the Wavedream beats the pants off of my Yggdrasil. What amazes me the most are the highs; the highs have none of the R2R ringing or edge, yet are so refined, smooth, and have amazing textural reproduction

@MellowVelo there are other differences that I'll outline in an eventual impressions post (or can answer in PM). To be absolutely clear, I still like and recommend the Yggdrasil GS and am keeping mine. One of these two DACs will be going in the two channel rig once I get a few things set up

After I got this DAC, I sold 4 previous ones I had. Big shout out to @Executer for his advice on the Wavedream
