    Yes it can sound more clear and transparent, but ime with dacs driving power amps you can sometimes start to miss a bit of flavor or seasoning that a pre amp can provide.

    that's the only way I ever used mine, wrote about it in my review. the difference isn't subtle. the only pres ive heard get close to no pre are the AVCs. I run my Dave the same way.

    @AdvanTech , if I am streaming (I use Roon on the Rockne WaveNet), then I use the Roon app to control the volume. I am still not there yet with the volume levels on the DAC when I use the CDT on the WaveNet (meaning I'm yet to find the right attenuation in this scenario).

    Well, all pre-amps do is switch and attenuate, so "driving" is not a problem. So... you are controlling volume on the PC? In the old days, that was considered an audiophile sin!

    What about when playing vinyl?
