Dude. I have never known a time where computers have had transformer based power supplies and I’ve used computers since the 80s
@Cspiro, time-wise, so have I. And it was over forty years ago, so I could well be wrong about the transformers. But I *think* early PCs did have. Anyway, they whined sometimes. Capacitors?
